Indeed, a landmark occasion.

It was just Russia cleaning out some deadwood. The crisper, cleaner Russia of Putin is the result. It's politics without a reliance on the media cycle, popularity polls or democracy.

It is hard to believe that it's been 25-years already, isn't it? I sure with when the world has had the "momentous" events that we'd end up with a better world. Even if it looks like it for a bit, we always seem to return to the naturally unsettling state of affairs we were so glad to get rid of. :(
