Advice for getaways

It's never a bad time for a get-a-way!

Marl and I are holed up in a wonderful cabin with another couple in Gatlinburg, Tn.

There is an outstanding 'net connection as well as DISH tv, great company and the touristy stuff is awesome. A Ripley's Believe it or Not Oddity Museum, a Dixie Stampede as well as several other "diner and a show" type places, many go-cart/minigolf/laser tag/arcade type things as well as a totally awesome Ripley's Aquarium and lots of places to eat.

The off season according to the locals is between january and march and i hope to make our next trip then because these holiday tourists are nuts! (irony, eh?)

We made a day of the aquarium with 4 adults and a 3 year old. Honestly it was cool as hell although the moving sidewalk through the tunnel under the large "shark lagoon" was AWESOME. so freakin cool, I swear Marlboro who is not much for taking pictures snapped about 100 in that alone. Then we came back "home" to the cabin, walked the dog, cooked dinner and put the kid to bed.

The best feature is most cabins have very private balconies some have outdoor hot tubs on the and some have indoor hot tubs. Ours happens to be outside. 100 degree + (F) hot tub after a day of walking through the throngs with the cool ( 40 or so degree F) mountain air around you is quite a thrill. Especially when you're all naked. ( The tub was right outside the room where the little one was snoozing so we could all keep an ear on her, so no danger there.)

Anyone else have suggestions for couples or family get-a-ways?

This was only a 5 hour drive for us but figured that not everyone would know about this "local" get-a-way!

Hot Tub Holidays! I mean Naked Hot Tub-ing! I mean Happy New Years! Yeah thats it!

I love Savannah, Georgia. Great B&Bs for couples but camping nearby for families.

Glad you guys got a little adventure.

Mrs Z & I have been doing the Naked Hot Tub thing in the Smokies for years now. Finding the right combo of privacy & access to amenities (not to mention a place that doesn't push my acrophobia over the edge  ) has taken a lot of time, & covered pretty much all of Sevier County, but it looks like we have a good spot now. At least as long as they don't sell the cabin off to another company.

Check out Cade's Cove for vast expanses of bucolic beauty.

drove through Cades Cove, unfortunately this time of year theres only mud and deer. we hope to return when we can do a horseback tour though that will wait until we have horses since I sold mine and they were a bit small for Marls 6'6" frame.

Any other places we should put on our visit list? In the south, north etc? only looking in the US currently as I need to get over a fear of flying.

No need for a plane, I'm flying high on happy as it is,

Savannah , Ga is pretty, romantic and historical. Lots to do and see at a casual relaxed pace.

BamaKyttn,

Charleston, SC, is a very pretty city, and has quite a few historical points of interest.

Lilith, I love that "relaxed pace" the couple we went to 'burg with were what I call Active Vacationers. Up at 7 am and off to a pancake house etc. We told them we'd meet up when we woke up, as we are in no rush preferring to enjoy our time together without pressing needs beyond the physical. We still got out and enjoyed the sights but I'm not going to stress myself during my vacation just so I can go back to work just as tired!

Jseal, We had his family reunion in Statesville, NC last summer I loved the drive through the Carolinas.

Bama, Marian and I are "get up sometime before noon" characters, so having another couple to guilt us into getting out earlier probably isn't a bad thing. 5 am would result in an unsolved murder, but so long as it's reasonable, it's good.

You could get to some of our getaways, but only after a couple of months on a boat.

My aunt just left for her first round the world cruise of the year. We may eventually look into one but they revolve a lot around social interactions and neither of us like people very much and can't take the dogs with us. Marl won't go without Vann.

Even though he stayed in a crate (I didn't trust the parents of the 3 year old to keep the kid under control or away from Vann while we were asleep) Vann was much happier to be with us than left at home with the other dogs.

This made me miss the good old days, wherein before the kids were born. We use to travel and always go for a steamy night exploring new way to satisfy one another, now we can't do this since the kids joins us when we travel.

Damn, I forgot to post my original thought.

Ski-masks, fake plates and a turbo Mustang.

As even the the best-laid schemes, our gang oft a gley or something like that.....

The first couples husband lost his job, the second couples husband had his hours halfed which left us with a larger portion of the bill than we wanted so we settled for a mini vaca instead.

Found a local hotel, invited a lot of friends and raided the hotel indoor pool, hotub, and sauna then hit the bar. woohoo.

Was a good thing we stayed close to home, we lost 3 puppies from an unknown illness that week. :(

Heres to a better new year.
