If I can further muddy the waters, when gas is sold to the petrol station by the oil companies

they work out the volume it would have taken at 20C and bill for that volume.

Volumes at the bowser are not corrected for temperature.

Where I live it rarely goes below 20C, so I'm always behind the 8 ball.
