I just had to express my opinion of this;because I'm so sick of hearing;about it on the radio!They continually talk about the # of
people;that are suing;Fast Food chains;(McDs,etc.)because the;
chains;made them fat.I have never seen employees;of said chains,forcefeeding people!To me that is as stupid as suing;tobacco co's;for giving you cancer.(Yes;I smoked two pks a
day;years ago!)I'm 58;and I still workout; almost daily.(Usually,at
night.I have a TV,in my workout room;and rather than;sit on my
ass)I make myself do it.I'm not going;to enter;any contests;at my
age;but one still has pride in oneself.When it comes to food or any substance;that you put in your body;anyone;with any sense;
knows what is good or bad.Tomorrow;does come!Take it from a
recovering alcoholic.As the old saying goes-"Use it or Lose it!"
You might not be able to help;having Diabetes or Colitus;but that
shouldn't mean;giving up.Opinions? Irish

I always loved the lawsuits because the hot coffee spilled and by golly the coffee was HOT! I don't get why people are allowed to BE THAT DUMB!!! LOL LOL

If nothing else, other peoples stupidity entertains the rest of the world.

Hold on a minute... I'll definitely agree that suing a fast food place because you're fat is pretty dumb. But when dumb lawsuits are brought up, the Mcdonalds hot coffee case is inevitably mentioned... and a lot of people have never heard all the facts concerning that case. And I mean no offense to you RandyGal...

A couple quick notes... the woman was in the passenger seat trying to add cream and sugar while the car was stopped. When she pulled off the plastic lid, it spilled.
Mcdonalds kept it's coffee at 185 degrees... most coffee brewed at home is around 135-140 degrees.
I know people like their coffee hot but it BURNED her SKIN off her body and they had to graft skin from other parts of her body to cover up the burned parts.
She was in the hospital for 8 days and sought to settle with Mcdonalds out of court for $20,000 and they refused.

Altho I too am feed up with frivelous lawsuits.. I thank Aqua for clarifying things with the truth.

I don't for a moment hold McD's, BK, or Lil Ms. Wendy accountable for me being fat.. and I think that anyone in their right mind would feel the same.

All the suits out there that do appear to be frivelous and a waste of tax payers money (because lets face it, it is tax payers that pay the ultimate reward) are there because unfortunately we now live in a society where it would appear NO ONE wants to take responsibility for their own actions. This is not only obvious in these cases... but in other aspects of our society (our social services being another example)

OK Aqua...........Hot coffee is hot! We, as humans, know that! A dog or cat or elephant might not know that....but when I see a fresh cup of coffee with a lid....I am figuring.....Whoa!, that's hot! And, yes, McDonald's was required to turn the heat down a bit.............but HOLY FRIGGIN MOLY! It was an accident.......McDonalds didn't set out that day to burn that woman! Many people before her had held onto their coffee and replied..."Damn, this is friggin hot coffee!" And they never were so stupid as to burn the skin off themselves! I'm sorry for the lack of concern here.......but when I do stupid thigs...I don't let the world know about them! It was stupid on her part....please just admit that!

I could, in any given day, do any number of "accidental" things and sue the pants off of everyone around me. This is getting so out of hand I could scream! Irish.....I actually thought (about 2 years back) and said it out loud at work one day to some fellow employees........."At the weight I am today, I should sue my grocery store for selling me anything that has a high fat content!" They laughed.....but I started to think.......OK.........At this rate of frivolous law suits (due to the money mongering lawyers and idiodic judges that hear the cases)....I could sue the grocery stores for making me fat..........The cig. companies for making me addicted.........Mother Nature for making hubby have allergies and me have cramps (.like I need more punishment every month!)........"God", Evolution (whichever you subscribe to) for making me without 3 hands. I constantly say...."There is a construction flaw in the human body. I need three hands to do this (any particular job that requires three hands or more...and if I had three, I would need four!). The list goes on.....but I think you get the gist. Whew!!!!!!........Who wants the soapbox?

I just mean to say.............Come on people! Life is life! There are ups and downs. If you have a legitimate case....take it to court.....but don't raise my insurance rates because of YOUR stupidity! I do stupid things all the time (not mentioning what all the time means) and I have NEVER sued anyone because of it! I couldn't sleep at night for ill-begotten money I am wallowing in!

I think what it all comes down to is people not being willing to take responsibility for their own actions. Somehow the wires get crossed in some people's heads where they automatically assume that someone else should be held accountable, not themselves. We all make mistakes, and when we can honestly say, "wow, I screwed up, and really learned a lesson there," we are then called ADULTS.

sue fast food chains for being fat, suing tobacco companies for getting cancer, suing casinos for gambling addictions.....it's a litigious society where there's no such thing as an accident or your own stupidity

A case in point, yesterday in London, a man was convicted of manslaughter for killing a burglar who attacked him brandishing a meat cleaver. The defendant claimed self-defence as he thought his children were in the upstairs bedroom, where the robber has just come out of. Justice?? Who knows, but if you can go to jail for protecting your family, why not sue the government for misinformation (amongst other things).

Lixy, Mcdonalds had been warned in the past that their coffee was too hot. Even if the temp had been down to 150, which is still damn hot, it would not have burned her skin off. Burned yes, but not to the point of requiring surgery.
Think about this... if you've ever been in a hot tub the temp is generally between 99-102. At 104 most newer hot tubs automatically shut off. Can you imagine if it was 80 degrees hotter?!
Really, should anyone have to worry that spilling their drink will put them in the hospital for over a week?
