Need some friendly advice.

Well my fellow Pixians, I am at a crossroads. I have recently discovered that the job that I have had for the last five years, has decided to cap all hourly wages and stop merit raises all together. Now I understand why they are doing this being the evil, twisted, maniacal, world conglomerate that they are, cocksuckers. Pardon my expletive. The crossroads I find myself at is simply this. Do I stay at this now dead end job? or Do i take a job somewhere else with the risk of starting over again on the pay and benefits scale, and slowly work my way back up the ladder? I don't know what the hell to do, I know that my fellow Pixian's will have words of wisdom and encouragement for me. I just wish my professional life wasn't about to get the big FLUSH. Any and all comments will be most appreciated as always. Oh and my company can kiss this right in the middle

If you love your job stay. If not go find one you do.

may want to look closely at the benefits and compare to what other companies are offering.

if you can find better benefits at other places, it might be worth taking a bit of a pay cut.

If you need new challenges move on. If you prefer to get your bonus from a rich personal life, you should consider staying.

It's a bit silly to jump from a perfectly good ship into shark infested water.

Stay where you are until you have a better ship to jump to.

I left a job like that but I was young & living in a resort town. If you have more invested (& it sounds like you totally do) then you're going to have to think about it a lot more than I did at the time.

Then again, my last job also changed things to the detriment of the workers. They had sold the company for $150 million but then cut merit bonuses. A lot of good people left the company & I soon followed suit. You might find it the same at your place. What are your coworkers saying?

Bottomw line was I just couldn't respect my mangers anymore. They were making tons of money while reducing (or "changing") our wages.

ironhide,

Start looking now. You have worked this job with certain assumptions. The company just changed the rules of the game. Will you remain content for the next 30 years? Find another position and then hand in your two weeks notice.

You took the job with certain expectations. If the opportunity to advance based upon your performance and dedication is no longer an option, and that's important to you, then you need to seek that elsewhere.

The company was up front about what their intentions are, so armed with that information...if you elect to stay, try not to let your work suffer because of animosity towards the company; continue to give your best effort.

All of the above is perfectly good advice, & I can't improve on any of it...ultimately, you'll have to make the call yourself...from your profile I gather you have about 3 or 4 decades of working life to fill, & you'll have to decide if this is what you wanna do with that time...keep in mind that it's not too late to get some schooling in to start a new career, scary as that may be...Mark Twain said something to the effect that in the end, you will be more dissappointed over the things you didn't try to do than the things you did...

From someone who is "in the market", for a new job, thanks to circumstances beyond my own control, I would stay, but keep looking for new opportunities.

Good luck.

Also keep in mind that sometime soon the worm might turn and those promotion opportunities may come back. New management could come in.

Plus -- companies often seek to keep good people, regardless of the company policy on promotion. It just may take a little longer.

Thank You one and all

I wish to thank everyone that has taken the time to offer their advive. I will say that it brings a smile to my face to know that you all, either have been or are in the same boat as me so to speak. I have decided to bide my time for the moment, but rest assured that I am heavily hunting for a new job. The company i work for Scam's hehe isn't going to improve their benefits anytime in the near future. I will keep you all informed as to what happens cause I firmly believe that my fellow Pixians are the best bunch on the net. My thanks to you all peace, love and happiness to you.
