Question Sex & Politics

Since this is proving to be a very interesting election year, I was just wondering how/if politics play a role in your relationship with your partner.

Do you & your partner have the same or similiar political views? If not, and if you are brave enough to discuss it, does the "heat" effect your sex life?

I wonder how many people may find themselves sleeping on the couch on election night!

When Mr. Lil and I first started off it was a mixed marriage. He belonged to the party his family had always belonged to. After years of hearing the party's platform, realizing that he did not actually believe in most of what they supported, and never actually voting for a candidate they offered neither locally or nationally, he switched. For my birthday he gave me his old voter'sreg card and showed me his new. I was really proud of him. It's hard to go against what your family has always done and decide you need to be faithful to your own views. *That* was a hot night of sex

Sex & Politics do not make good bed fellows.......... And I feel we've sadly confirmed that here at Pixies in the past.

That said............. I have never been able to declare or register as a 'party' loyalist. I have long been VERY active civically but always refused to ally politically which carries the two edged sword. The individuals and issues always decided my vote.

MUCH more than you dislike hearing it, I am saddened to say I did not believe I could ever live long enough to be so disheartened in our system as I am today. I could not vote until I was 21 and NEVER missed doing so for 40 years. I now can not be part of a system I see as so corrupt and distant from the beliefs I held it to be rooted in. For the sake of my children and grandchildren, I pray it is not as irreversibly broken as I perceive it.

Lilith, Kudos to your husband for standing true to his own beliefs. I think that the majority of people base their early beliefs on their parents and sometimes don't embrace their own until they are safely in their 30's.

PF- I agree politics & sex tend to exist best seprately. Like you, I am also disheartened by our political situation today.

I must say that I take George Carlin's view on it. I don't leave the house on election day unless I have to work. I haven't liked any of the people running for office on the national level since I've been able to vote, so I'm not even registered. It's my belief that the system that we have was well designed for the time that it was created, but with everything that has happened, the America of today is nowhere near what is was over 200 year's ago. I'm not saying we should change from democracy, I just think we need to step back and revamp the system to something a bit more modern. The other thing about it is most people seem to just vote for the incumbent regardless of the job they did, and subsequently nothing that's wrong with the government gets fixed. If you keep the same tired views in office, you can't expect a better government to emerge. Let us not forget the election that voted a dead person into the office over living people because no one had taken his name off the ballet.

Dearsweet and I are registered to the same party, but often disagree about who should be elected. The trick we employ to keep sleeping together has been for us to talk about what is right about a candidate rather than to disparage the alternate. We also enjoy betting sexual favors on the outcome of many elections.

Over the last twenty five years, her sense of the electable has proven to be slightly better than mine.

Those of us who care enough to vote have just over three months remaining to study each candidate before making up our minds. Both have flaws and admirable points; the feisty but sometimes cranky old warrior John McCain makes a fine contrast to the rousing but sometimes inconsistent young visionary Barak Obama. It seems to me that the primaries have provided Americans the clearest choice we have had for a good long while.

Mr Osuche can't vote (he's not a US citizen) and so the conversations we have are academic. We agree about 75% of the time, and when we don't we discuss it. Sometimes he's even convinced me to change my vote.

I like the idea of trading sexual favors for the winner....

We don't discuss politics much in the zoid house, as there's really no need to. Mrs zoid & I come from about the same values, & have seldom "cancelled" each other's votes...unlike my late parents, who voted from both sides of the fence for 45 yrs. This year may be a change for us, a brief discussion revealed that she was "scared" of Obama...since she works with a lot of extreme right-wingers, I think she may have bought into some of the lies, when the time is right I may need to educate her, gently of course.

I've always been a bit nihilistic about politics in general, & I have to agree that the state of the nation (not to mention the world in general) has never been so bleak...I just keep repeating Churchill's words, "Democracy is the worst political system, except for all the others"...

The only real problem I see with Obama being the white house is that with being black, having a middle eastern sounding name, and the current troubles we have coming out of there, it's all to likely that someone will try to assassinate him. I know it sounds terrible, but it is a real possibility. We'd have a similar problem if it was Clinton just because she's female. Unfortunately, while the individual is smart, people are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and we don't like going outside the box.

Heck, yes. That sounds like a win-win proposition.

Just remember PF, there's always Palmala Handerson to keep you company instead of the television.

Everything counts as sex & politics; it's your decision if the screwing you're getting is worth the screwing you're getting.
