Embarassing Query

I have to confess that today my charming and curious eight year old was in my drawers today and found my "favorite bullet" toy. I had to ask him to return it.

I have a locking box but not all of my toys fit in this locking box, nor is it convenient to access when a late night or one of "those" urges strike.

*Waits for roar of laughter to stop*

Where do you safely hide your toys from such curious and thieving kids?

I'd get a bigger lock box. Preferably with a combination lock so you don't have to worry about a key or something. A simple 4 digit code is easy to remember, and cracking through all 10,000 combinations would take your eight year old long enough (unless he's a genius) to where you can catch him and scream at him, etc. It's what my mom uses to hide the $20,000 I'm not supposed to know about.

See if you can get one with a false bottom while you're at it. That way if he ever does crack it open and find only love letters he'd be disappointed.

Still, I think the damage has been done. At least he didn't find it in his dad's bedside drawer when he was 13 like a friend of mined did. Scarred him for life.

Is it selfish of me not to want to share?

No, I think you should be afforded some privacy. Unfortunately I don't know of a better solution, except for maybe a bedside handgun safe, they have some that are biometric so it would open by just a touch (by you). Realisticly though I don't know.

I have never really hid my toys. When she was little we called them neck massager because mommy's neck was always stiff. She knows better now.

our kids are little yet, so they don't snoop. our girl did find a toy once (it was left laying around ) and gladly accepted my explanation it was a dog bone.

right now, they're in a box under the bed 'cause they got to be too many for the nightstand.

We converted our headboard into a gun rack.

My little one once found one of my rather benign looking vibes, turned it on and "flew" it around the room saying "AIRRRRRPLAAAANE!"

At that point, they were kept under my bed. Now everything is in the closet tucked deep inside the hamper thingy where I keep all my undies.

Yeah my daughter is only three and doesn't snoop yet, and most of our toys are just kept out of her reach/sight. In a year or so we will have to come up with a different solution.

I want to see that!

Personally, I think head boards should come standard with a hidden compartment for just such items! *sigh* You think that could be my million dollar idea?

I had a water bed once that had just that, a secret compartment in the headboard.
The fact that I lived alone took away some of the fun, but it was really handy for "special storage"
