yes it is fine to use petroleum jelly, also known as vaseline in Australia for masturbating but never use it with a condom.

I asked my doctor about that once, and she said that it can cause a terrible infection, and because of its thickness it's great at attracting and holding bacteria. Again don't use petroleum jelly. For women I've been taught that the only things you should use are lubricants that are made specifically for that, kyjelly, etc., not stuff like olive oil unless you're a guy. Using olive oil, petroleum jelly, etc can cause infections in a woman's vagina.
