Question Freedom for All!

>
>
> THE REST OF THE STORY by Paul Harvey
> Conveniently Forgotten Facts
>
> Back in 1969 a group of Black Panthers decided that a fellow black
> panther named Alex Rackley needed to die. Rackley was suspected of
> disloyalty. Rackley was first tied to a chair. Once safely immobilized,
> his friends tortured him for hours by, among other things, pouring boiling
> water on him. When they got tired of torturing Rackley, Black Panther
> member, Warren Kimbro took Rackley outside and put a bullet in his head.
> Rackley's body was later found floating in a river about 25 miles north of
> New Haven, Conn.
> Perhaps at this point you're curious as to what happened to these
> Black Panthers. In 1977, that's only eight years later, only one of the
> killers was still in jail. The shooter, Warren Kimbro, managed to get a
> scholarship to Harvard, and became good friends with none other than Al
> Gore. He later became an Assistant Dean at an Eastern Connecticut State
> College. Isn't that something? As a '60s radical you can pump a bullet
> into someone's head, and a few years later, in the same state, you can
> become an Assistant College Dean! Only in America!
> But wait, it gets better! Erica Huggins was the lady who served the
> Panthers by boiling the water for Mr. Rackley's torture. Some years later
> Ms. Huggins was elected to a California School Board.
> How in the world do you think these killers got off so easy? Maybe
it
> was in some part due to the efforts of two people who came to the defense
of
> the Panthers. These two people actually went so far as to shut down Yale
> University with demonstrations in defense of the accused Black Panthers
> during their trial. One of these people was none other than Bill Lan Lee.
> Mr. Lee, or Mr. Lan Lee, as the case may be, isn't a college dean. He
isn't
> a member of a California School Board. He is now head of the US Justice
> Department's Civil Rights Division, appointed by none other than Bill
> Clinton.
> O.K., so who was the other Panther defender? Is this other notable
> Panther defender now a school board member? Is this other Panther
apologist
> now an assistant college dean? No, neither! The other Panther defender
> was, like Lee, a radical law student at Yale University at the time. She
is
> now known by some as the "smartest woman in the world." She is none other
> than the Democratic senator from the State of New York our former First
> Lady, the incredible Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Thumbs up

dm383---You're right about the politicians.I don't know how much
of that is factual but I'm from right outside of New Haven,Conn.I
remember when the incident happened. It was all over the News!
I believe that people change, over time, but they still have the same core values. You just "Bullshit"the people differently. As I've
said before,You have to satisfy the person that looks back from the mirror! Irish

Unhappy

Jings, what have I started!!

jseal, I don't know much about American politics, or politics in general come to that, but I DO know people!!
I watch our home-grown politicos on TV (when I can stomach it!) and the vast majority of them are lying through their teeth every time they open their mouths! As a psychiatric nurse working in the community, it's part of my job to know how to "read" peoples body-language, and a lot of politicians don't seem to appreciate us ordinary folks aren't as dumb as they'd like to think!

Also speaking as a nurse, I pay particular attention to the Scottish Execeutive's pronouncements on the Health Service. This government has made numerous pledges & promises about surgery and clinic waiting times, recruitment & retention of nurses and doctors, as well as regarding pay & conditions for ALL health service staff: after 5 years, NONE of these have come to pass, indeed waiting times for operations (for example) have actually increased by an average of 21% country-wide. (I'm speaking only of Scotland here!)

Lastly ( for now at least) two personal examples; when I lived in the Isle of Man, I was quite friendly with the Night Nursing Manager at the hospital I worked in, and went out socially with him & his wife. THEN he was elected a M.H.K. (kind of a manx MP) and from being an ardent naturalist (amongst other things) has just voted for a plan to develop over 100 acres of prime grazing land for housing. (Doesn't sound a lot, I know, but bear in mind the Island is only 11 miles by 33) Second is CA's great-uncle, who is a junior pol in our Ministry of Defence..... it seems he was instrumental in denying Gurkha widows a basic Army pension, whilst publicly endorsing it! (I saw him on TV, but didn't know who he was at the time!!)

Sorry to go on, but you DID ask!!

Just a thought off the top of my head....but maybe part of the problem is the sort of people going into poiltics? This sort of unsupported, or barely true character assasination is all too common an element of politics these days. It's become a tool of all parties in the states (at least) to not just make us disagree with the other guy's policies...but to encourage us to hate and demonize them.

We have to be more critical consumers when it comes to politics...both in terms of the policies we're being offered, but also in terms of the dirt that's being thrown. If we perpetuate it, we're guillty of giving the good guys reasons to stay out of a messy business.....because the only folks who are going to volunteer for the sort of treatment I see delt out above are going to be those who have hides too thick for my liking in the first place.

2cents.

Angry

Let's all stop the"mine's bigger then yours!"No matter who did
what,I was brought up to believe that"Two wrongs don't make a
right!"Everyone believes what they believe&no-ones going to change their mind. The only thing that ever bothers me,is when I
see people that seem so intelligent& they fall for the same old crap! They probably think the same of me altho I doubt if they think that I'm intelligent. Irish

But Irish you keep posting all this one sided political rhetoric and or annecdotal stories and it naturally makes people defensive.

I'm not trying to pick a fight. Demonizing the "other" side is something more and more people of all polliltical persuasions seem to have fallen for. And I offered the opinion that this might be part of the reason that we don't have anyone in office we can admire any more. I don't know any sane person who would set themselves up for this sort of treatment. On either side of the poliltical spectrum.

I don't post inflamatory stuff about politicians I don't like, I don't think it's productive. I will occasionally offer humor, and I'll happily discuss policies, but this doesn't seem like the place. I do, however, think that we should all question the source and accuracy of everything we read....whether our instinct is to agree with it or not.

That's all. It's a non-partisan opinion....it just happened to be sparked by a right wing post this time.

To tell you the truth,I hate politics.I hate talking about it when I would much rather talk about SEX,Good Food,Jazz,Laughter, and oh wait, did I mention SEX?? But I also feel if I don't learn to make informed decisions regarding who I want to run this country or my state of California,we will end up with what we have now.Bush, both papa doc and baby doc are nothing short of bloody fascists hell bent on ruining this country and it's economy, our rights, and our future.I consider myself center left which has a long way to go towards becomming a radical. And by the way the term Communist doesn't fit me either.I have been called that from time to time by the likes of people who would spport Nixon,Reagan, papa and baby doc Bush and quite few others.Always wondered why? Oh well, must be a short cut for not having to deal with real issues.Although I might seem to be ridding your butt in these posts,I have a great deal of respect for you as a person and my reason is not to offend but to present another view.

[sighs]

See? Demonizing personal attacks can come from the left too. And they're just as likely to polarize discussions and piss people off without any fear that actual communication may take place.

See ya, boys. I'm gonna go eat my breakfast at the kids table...they look like they're having more fun.
