Unhappy Transitions — Gerry Thomas

Gerry Thomas, the man who brought the TV Dinner to the world, has died. He was 83 years old.

The first TV dinner – of turkey & cornbread dressing with gravy, sweet potatoes and buttered peas - went on sale in 1953 priced at 98 cents. Mr. Thomas' invention was a solution to his company, CA Swanson and Sons’, surplus of turkey.

The idea caught on well.

Well, it must come in threes. First there was Prime Minister Edward Heath who passed away at 89.Next was Gen.William Westmoreland at 91 and now Gerry Thomas the gapped toothed english comic...no wait that wasn't him,the inventer of the frozen TV dinners. I think my parents used to defrost 'em throw 'em in a blender and spoon feed me.

Let's not forget Luther!

But anyway...more on the thread topic...

It's a sad thing to proclaim...but some of my fondest memories in my poorer days (back when I lived with Mom and we didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of) are of the times when we could afford to get some TV dinners and sit in the living room and watch old movies together! Never had money for a dessert unless it came in a TV dinner!

*sniffle*

Hey! He made my life memorable!

R.I.P. Gerry Thomas

I'll remember you with a smile!
