Question Oral birth control taken vaginally?

Ok this is just a little question about oral birth control. I tend to get a sick feeling in my stomach after taking it, and I keep reading that you can actually insert the pill vaginally to avoid feeling sick from it. Has anyone else heard of this or done it? It just seemed a little odd to me. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks

I've heard of progestin only pills being used vaginally, but almost always to treat premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in **some** women. I've never heard it used in this context as a contraceptive. However, the FDA approved a vaginal contraceptive ring last october; see the link below for more info.

As always, please consult a physician if your seeking this knowledge for personal use.

Hope this is helpful.

Huh?

I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV (although I did play Dr. Watson once in a community theater production of Hound of the Baskervilles, but that is irrelevant) but I would just not try that if I were you if you don't want to get pregnant.

I'm certain that oral pills are designed to break down in your stomach and distribute into your system through your digestive tract. I wouldn't trust the hormones in the pill to distribute properly dissolving in your vagina. I just don't think it's supposed to work that way.

Maybe one of the nurses here can shed some light.

Wink

If not taken orally, the only other way for these pills to

be effective is to hold them between your knees.

Vaginal contraceptives are traditionally the spermicidal

gels and fizzy tablets.

The skin of the vagina is not a good surface for absorption

of fragile chemicals.

Hi sweetie, listen if the prescription is written for an ORAL you need to take it by mouth. Using it vaginally will not help at all. If you are getting sick from your birth control you need to do one of three things.: 1- depending on how long you have taken it, less than 3 months, give it a month or two, you body needs to get used to the hormones. 2-if it is past three months, go see your doctor, the hormones might be in too large of a dose for you or not enough. and 3- stop taking the pill and use a condom, spermicide or abstinance. let me know if you have any more questions.
