Damian Ulric Shields was born in the early part of the 1800's in a small farm cottage about twenty miles from Dracula's castle. Before Dracula's death, Damian's grandfather, Randall, had quite literally served him as a house wolf. (Randall is Teutonic for "House Wolf".) It was Dracula who gave the family the surname of "Shields". (Shields is Altic for "Loyal Protector".) Randall had been away from the castle as his mate gave birth to his first son, Farkas, when Dracula was killed. (Farkas is Hungarian for "Wolf".) Randall moved his family away until a time when he felt it was again safe. By then Farkas had his own mate and she too gave birth to a son, Damian Ulric Shields. (Danian is Greek for "Tamer, Devine Power, Fate". Ulric is Scandinavian for "Wolf".)

When Damian was nearing 75, the villagers of Transylvania once again took it upon themselves to rid themselves of the "evil" that lived so close. Only Damian and a handful of his fellow lycans escaped. Together they came to America to once again breed and repopulate their pack. Upon reaching America, they decided it best to seperate and start their own smaller packs. They hoped to one day join the packs together.

It was roughly twenty-five years later, the early part of the 1900's, when Damian came to live with some of the Native Americans. Although he was 100, give or take a few years, he look as if he was 25. He was about 6' tall, 200 lbs., brown eyes, and long brownish black hair. In his human form he was trully handsome.

While living with the Indians, Damian became close to their shaman, Soaring Eagle. Soaring Eagle knew right away what Damian was and excepted him with open arms. Like many Native Americans, Soaring Eagle saw Damian has a symbol of good luck sent to them by the gods. Damian was given the name Skinwalker by the tribe. He also took a squaw for his mate but, she never produced him any children. And like most lycan's, he out lived his human mate.

It was during Damian's time with the Indains that Soaring Eagle told him: "You will meet a woman with whom you have long hoped for or desired. She will be like a stalking wolf in a watch tower, always guarding your home. You will meet her in a wolf's home." At the time he did not know what the shaman was meaning but, 20 years later he knew.

In the early 1920's, Damian, now roughly 120, settled into the town of Wolcott, Utah. He hoped to start his new pack here. It was here in Wolcott that he met a man by the name of Edwin Howard. Damian helped him to move his family into their new built home. He would also do handyman work in return for food and shelter. (Not that Damian really needed help in getting these things. He just didn't want to show his true self this soon after moving here.) It was then that Damian met Edwin's daughter, Atalaya Desiree Howard, or Tala for short. She was also the the woman that Damian longed for and desired.

Tala was 20, about 5' 5" tall, 130 lbs., blue eyes, and blonde hair with 28C breasts. She was one quarter Native American, from her mothers side. One of her hobbies was studing the origins and meanings of names. At an early age she had learned her own. Atalaya was Spanish-Arabic for "A watch tower". Desiree was Latin/French for "So long hoped for, craved, or desired". And her surname Howard was English for "Guardian of the home or watchman". Her grandmother gave her the nickname, Tala. It is Native American for "Stalking Wolf".

When Tala was little, her Indian grandmother had told her: "I have given you the nickname of Tala for two reasons. 1.) It is short Atalaya. 2.) When you meet someone you are unsure of or when you are after something that you want, you go around like a wolf stalking it's prey. Also, you will meet a man who will be your loyal protector and tamer. He will have devine powers in which he uses to hide the wolf in him. But, above everything...he is your fate."

After Tala met Damian, she then looked up his name and found the meanings. It was then that she learned that Damian was her fate. "After they started dating, Tala told him what his name meant and what her grandmother had said. When she told him what her name meant, it was then Damian's turn to learn that she was the woman that the old shaman had told him about. She even told him that the name of their town, Wolcott, was English for "Wolf's Home".

Over the course of the next year, Damian told Tala about who he really was. He also explained to her that the only way he could be with her sexually was to shapeshift. On several occassions during the long, cold winter, Damian and Tala would go hunting together. He would then take his true form and hunt for the him and her family. When her family learned about his true form, the Native American in Tala's mother embraced Damian as the tribe had. They were given permission to marry.

Their wedding night brought great pleasure to both Damian and Tala. She laid naked, watching with anticipation as he shapeshifted.
