Alternatives for Sex.. on a teen site

Found this on a teen talk site....

Alternatives to full sex

Everyone knows that having sex can be great fun if you and your partner both feel ready to do it. But what if you don't feel ready? How can you have fun without having full sex?

If you don't want to have full sex, there are still plenty of things you and your partner can do to give each other pleasure, even an orgasm. And getting to know each other's bodies before you have sex can make it a better experience when you do.

Most of these alternatives to full sex are 'safe' - they do not allow the exchange of blood, semen or vaginal fluids. But remember, although oral sex is much safer than vaginal or anal sex, it is not completely safe. So, if you are giving oral sex to a guy, you can reduce the risk of catching a sexually transmitted infection (STI) by using a condom (male or female version). And if you are giving oral sex to a girl, placing a dental dam (a square of latex), or a cut up condom (male or female version), over her vagina will lessen any risk.

Alternatives to full sex:
Body kissing
Stroking / massaging
Fondling
Masturbation / mutual masturbation
Oral sex

Opinions?

I strongly suspect that your teen magazine is preaching to the converted. Too late...

If I give a man head he's damn sure gonna know he's had sex...

I hate when they tout oral as an alternative to sex. A gun and a rifle will both kill you dead so can intercourse and oral. I tell you it's a dangerous situation.

Can't think why anyone who didn't feel ready for full sex would feel ready for oral.

It's far more intimate in my opinion and is far more of an advanced 'skill' to learn.

I experienced giving oral sex before losing my virginity (due to the fact that I happened to be on my period at the time) but wish I hadn't.......I was ready for intercourse but not for oral.......maybe that's just me.......

Hmmm...

I dunno if it was just me and the people I know, but when I was in high school I had a few friends who did not want to have real sex, so they would have "dry sex", i.e. they would stay dressed but hump and get their pleasure that way.

Doesn't sound fun to me now, though hehe.

There was an article in the newspaper here just a few months ago about the huge rise in the number of cases among teens of STDs acquired via oral sex. Why? Because so many teens don't consider having oral sex as having sex. They have gotten the message loud and clear that they may catch STDs if they have vaginal or anal sex, but they are not understanding that they can acquire STDs via oral sex as well. And going along with that, they understand that they must use condoms to cut down on STDs if they have intercourse, but they don't realize that they need to use similar protection if they have oral sex, too.

My daughter agreed whole heartedly with the article; she said it sounded like most of her classmates. She said she can't get over how many kids don't even know what a dental dam is or that you can buy condoms that are made especially for oral sex.

I really don't think it is so much a matter that kids don't think they are "ready" for sex (in other words, intercourse) but is more that they think they're being safer by having oral sex instead.

Another scarey side note of this is that there has been an increase in the number of cases of oropharyngeal (mouth/throat) cancer due to the spread of HPV (human papillomavirus, or genital warts) in which people are getting HPV in their throats from performing unprotected oral sex on their partners. This wasn't referring to teens, though, but to all sexually active age groups.

When I was a teen and started having sex, I was in the mind set of this article, but it was late 80's and the worry of std's wasnt what it is today. My obsession was pregnancy more than anything, I could think of nothing that would ruin my life more. I have many times where I could of had intercourse but passed most up cause of my fears.

Kids are growing up so fast now, and I worry about their attitudes about sex and how that intermingles with the feeling of immortality that most kids have now. I am concerned with the fact that oral sex has worked itself into the mix of general stuff that perhaps we all did as teens.. heavy petting, "necking" getting to 3rd base, etc.

And the fact that my 15 & 16 year olds have access to this information just floors me. Now, once again, we as parents need to step up to the plate and talk with our kids about more intimate subjects.......... but what about the parents that don't talk or aren't able to talk with their teens?

I don't think, at that age, they are ready for these kinds of things... maturity wise. But, I can say this, they are far more educated than I ever was even in my early 20's................

"Why can't they be like we were? Perfect in every way! What's the matter with kids today"?

It isn't the fact that kids are talking about sex at all, but the fact that a lot are doing things without being fully educated as to the ramifications of their actions.

The acceptance of oral sex for teens as a substitue for "real sex" is a concern for me. Yes, in a way I am glad that they are thinking about pregnancy and that oral is a way to prevent it, however, oral does not, in itself, present a "safe" way to relieve oneself in this day and age. Many teens suffer from STD of the throat............. it is becoming more prevelant.

Another factor that bothers me is the fact that when oral is refered to, it is usually the girls giving and the boys receiving. To me that is a one way street and is teaching our girls that the male pleasure comes first.

Just my 2 cents....

This ios interesting and has troubled me..

Many teens are physically ready, but what they are not ready for is the emotional side, far more powerful than the orgasm and far reaching, but even more scarey if they catch an STD.

Teens needs to be able to talk about the emotional needs - Scarlet Letters has the Scarlateen Site which is excellent.
