This is old news now but pixies was down,so I couldn't post. On
the local TV news last week;the main story was as to how one of
the catagories of the; Dover,N.H.;yearbook was the most romantic
couple.Two girls won.The school-board refused to declare them the winner because the ballot stated male-female.By Wends. it had made the Boston radio stations.The school; finally relented;
because the students; protested;so much!To me-this is just a
rebellion against the puritannical way of thinking that is so prevailent.What is your opinion?I ;always;thought that if you leave me and mine alone;I;don't care what you do. Irish

Personally, as someone who identifies as same sex oriented, it shows that we have been successful at passing on to the next generation the idea that all people have the right to love and express that love. If nothing else, we've led them down the path to tolerance. Good for them! Good for the High School, it's students and their parents. Good for the couple who weren't ashamed to be "normal"

Just my opinion.

But this is not a private personal, or isolated issue. If this was open to an entire group, hoping for high participation, I question WHO organized it and with what FORETHOUGHT, and who JUDGED it with and with what criteria? This being a HIGH SCHOOL year book contest… puts it up for 14-18 year olds. If the consensus is “old enough to bleed, old enough to breed”, then fine! Bring in a category of sensuous relations. If the accord is that the group includes people beginning a transformation to adulthood and may not yet have all the answers, (lord knows most of us are still finding a lot of the questions) then what the hell are you including it for?

If there was an up-front condition of “male-female” relationships, WHY was other relations entered? If it wasn’t open-ended, they weren’t looking for affairs with fetishes, S&M, golden showers or anything else. While all these have a right to exist, to invade with them is to carry a CAUSE to where it won’t be welcome. What do you think will be the receptiveness?

This sounds like the minor social challenges we all went

through in our youth, big to us but small in the overall

scheme of things.

This is not "leaving me and mine alone" because it's a deliberate

"In your face" action which doesn't give a shit about how you

feel on the issue.

Sad that someone's again got schoolkids being sociopolitical

patsies.
