Unhappy Transitions — Charlton Heston

Charlton Heston Charlton Heston, who won “Best Actor” Oscar for his starring role in Ben-Hur, died on Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills.

He also portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movies of the 1950s and 1960s.

While later in life he would become notable as the president of the NRA, he had been a vocal supporter of Martin Luther King and the 1960s Civil Rights movement.

A larger than life guy.

R.I.P sir.

I really liked the scene at the end of "Planet of the Apes".
He could play a wide range of roles.

He was the prophet of the past in Moses and the prophet of the future in Soylent Green.

There's a necessary opposition?

The first is position is commonly seen as conservative, the latter as liberal. A notable combination in a public figure.

Your half right...he is soylent green now.

I kid but, I will miss him dearly.

Other than Soylent Green, I also loved him in such films as...

Midway, Earthquake, Airport, The Call of the Wild, The Omega Man, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Planet of the Apes, and who could ever forget Ben-Hur.

RIP Sir.

Often overlooked was his bio-pic role as Andrew Jackson...a co-worker used to think it was hysterically funny to point out that A.J. looked just like Moses...

One of his impressive abilities was that he did not, as far as I know, have as huge an ego as some of his characters had. By my count he portrayed three presidents, three saints and two geniuses.

He struck me as a complex man of mixed emotions who walked a fine line mostly successfully.

I hope I am remembered as having done a fraction as well.
