The little toddler that was found after the tornado didn't make it after all.

Oldfart 03-05-2012 06:05 PM

Bummer.

Oldfart 06-30-2012 08:22 PM

It's the 70th anniversary of the Montevideo Maru.

Google it, it's important.

That was a sad event ... so many lives lost. It's too bad that the submarine couldn't have known what the cargo was and let that ship pass. :(

Oldfart 07-01-2012 08:15 AM

Survival rate in Japan was abysmal, so for most of them it was a blessed release.

Pity it couldn't have been captured and redirected to friendlier places.

A call from one of my dearest friend's daughter. My friend has been sick for 2 years, and recent surgery hasn't help. She's going to come take her to her house for awhile to take care of her and see a new specialist. She asked me to pick her up at the airport.

gekkogecko 07-11-2012 10:35 AM

News that my girlfriend wont' be in town for her birthday.

There is an "other side" to the shit shower you're swimming in.

You are safe, you are loved and you are contributing beyond your call.

Everything else will find it's level.

You'd look better in gold than blue.

Lilith 07-11-2012 10:25 PM

Well I do accept gifts ;)

Thanks dear friend.

Oldfart 07-12-2012 05:14 AM

I'll send M shopping for some "Happy Chick stuff"

sodaklostsoul 07-20-2012 10:43 PM

Thanks guys. She fought hard but it kept spreading. She left behind a 13 yr. old girl.

Lilith 07-20-2012 10:49 PM

my child

Oldfart 07-21-2012 11:23 AM

She did leave something behind.

It's those who leave nothing and no-one behind who make me saddest.

sodaklostsoul 07-27-2012 09:30 PM

Had a 20 yr. old doing 60 in a 30 while texting down a main street thru a busy intersection and took out a bike and 3 cars besides light pole and hedges. the man on the bike died, he was one of our customers. Kid turned 21 next day.

Lord Snow 07-27-2012 10:43 PM

I agree!!!!!

scotzoidman 08-18-2012 09:42 PM

Not so much sad, but I guess close enough for this thread:
Early this a.m. I was called out for a courier run that's not unusual for me, p/u a prescription at one of our Great Ubiquitous Corner Drugstores, & deliver to a nursing home out of town. Mind you, even a short walk thru any nursing home is kinda sad in of itself, but I've learned to not let it get to me (much). First, at the pick up point, I have a message on the blackberry giving the patient's name & date of birth; these DOB's have been getting too close for comfort for some time, but this one read xx/xx/54 - 2 yrs older than me, & for the math challenged, that's a 58 yr old...in a nursing home. Scary, disturbing, & sad all at once.

Getting to the home just ahead of the emergency squad & seeing a patient curled up like dead bug with his legs in the air wasn't a happy visual either.

dicksbro 08-19-2012 03:18 AM

Sorry to hear about the loss Soda and I hear you Scotz. It's true, it seems like as we age we hear of more and more folks not that far off from our own ages having problems we never thought much about when we were young. :(

kleclere 08-20-2012 08:09 PM

Not having a warm smile to look at.

jseal 08-20-2012 08:56 PM

A personally important meeting I was trying to arrange in September became impossible to schedule.

Oldfart 08-21-2012 03:31 AM

Bugger.

Lilith 08-24-2012 10:13 PM

My friend's 10 month old has a brain tumor the size of a lemon. I will be driving through the hurricane to get to the town the flew her to for surgery. That baby better be ok.

Oldfart 08-25-2012 01:29 AM

I am legally obliged, under penalty of a $50 or so, to vote today.

AZRedHot 08-25-2012 04:25 PM

Knowing my friend, whom we've been trying to get help all week because she hasn't slept, still didn't sleep last night after she attempted to check herself in to the ER for acute exhaustion. Seems she's having a manic episode due to prednisone use. I didn't even know this was a thing, but the intarwebs tells me it's well known, like 'roid rage. We've been worried sick for her all week.

I would almost welcome that system. The most effect I could have with my vote would be to NOT as I attempted to get as much coverage and attention  as I was first in line as the polls open, to pay my $50 and state how I believe the procedure, process and result have deteriorated to a meaningless and corrupt state I can no longer endorse, participate or believe in.

Oldfart 08-25-2012 07:32 PM

How can you possibly say that, PF? We have seen that our representatives (and there are many ardent men of God among them) are there to ensure that YOUR wishes as their electorate are heard and acted apon. There is no personal aggrandizement or financial aspect to their service.

Shame, PF, shame.

Lord Snow 08-25-2012 08:05 PM

^^^^^^^^ Sarcasm right?
