So you don't plan on showing him....

anyway talked down to, educated all in all it's the same thing. I start with the basic concerns always you never know what level anyone is on. Labs are a good breed, high energy, destructive but good. (I have a catahoula that is more destructive than any lab I know...... he has eaten 5 crates so far..... and I have the newest one wired together after 3 weeks b/c he's already broken the front out and he's almost 2!)

So you've set astide a stud contract, IE I want $X and a puppy, and your bitch must be Brusc tested. What are you going to ask that the bitch do, any titles required, or just a warm body and a desire?

I may seem harsh etc but remember I'm at both ends of the spectrum, I produce puppies but I also tell anyone who purchases a pup that (in contract) the dog must come back to me if anything changes in the way is it treated or living..if someone in the imm fam dies, it comes to ME and no one else. I also require the dog lives inside but as I've said thats a different deal.

OH! I got to take one of my babies to work with me today! the pre-schoolers and I did a lesson on what living things need, food water shelter (I took her crate) and clothes (she had a diaper on the kids thought that was funny as hell!) I was amazed at how still and quiet 22 preschoolers could be and even restrained I told them at first only to watch her trundle around not to pet her..... noone even tried to touch her lil fuzzy butt!

After the lesson I put her back in her crate "her bedroom" and about ten of my high-energy kids gathered around her on their stomachs heads on hands and watched her nap for 15 minutes. it was wonderful!

BamaKyttn yes we plan to show him, ive been doing ongoing research in that area and i found (after weeks and weeks of searching ) yesterday a place that trains in field trials and a place that trains in agility. i dont plan on doing ring work w him bc after the first 2 i really dont think ill have time and i personally belive that they are the most important. im sure that thats just my personal feelings on it tho, but i thikn a gun dog shud know what do in the fields and agility is good for them as well. i think if i was a dog id have more fun doing those than prancing around a ring LOL. he is an idoor dog primarly . of course we let him out to do his buisness and to play but he doesnt stay out for to very long and when we leave to go somewhere hes inside. i dont do crate training w him bc hes doing pretty good with out it .ive not set the stud fee yet bc im still researching how that works in england and im pretty much sure that im only going to bred him w the female we get so its not tooooooooooooo big a deal if i do decide to ill do it then. but i am going to research it any ways. i do understand the point ur coming from but i belive helpful hints shud not sound as if ur talkin to a 2 yr old. ill be the first to admit that ive alot to learn we all do in some way shape or form. and any helpfull advice u have on breeding and training in england that u can give w a smile in the message ill gleady take . i didnt want to come off sounding like a bitch in my last message but i was insulted and i get defensive (as most all of us do ) when i am. i know there are to many unwanted animals in the world. thats not a debate for me i agree w the fact that all animals that arnt being used as breeding stock need to be fixed. no question about it. but my dog is breeding stock and i still have a few years to learn before i have to do it. we wont be gettin a female untill this fall and i wont breed her till shes at least 2 so whats that ? 2 1/2 yrs about before my Tibby gets his grove on?? and we make sure to keep him in our fence hes never (nock on wood) jumped out . when he has followed us out the door he has never darted out down the road like alot of dogs will . hes fully traing to walk beside me w no lead (as soon as i get anywhere near where a car cud be hes back on it id die if i lost him) we are very carfull w him so he doesnt get out and have any accedents w a female. i do understand the concerns u have i just get bitchy like anyone else. and on the stud contract if and when we stud him to another bitch i doubt ill want a puppie. we are only allowed to move two animals tho the military. so our dog and our bitch will be it ill just take a stud fee and be happy.

oh and about ur preschoolers ...OMG TO CUTE! i luv to watch and help kids play w puppies! its so much fun its amazing that they try so hard to be good w them i think they know ull take the pups away if they arnt LOL. i do belive when i get back stateside and have my land im going to bring pups around to do the "pet therapy" stuff. i think labs wud be great for that cuz they really are a very patient breed and as long as they are being luved on they are happy as can be LOL.good luck w the crates lol sounds like u got ur hands full

Nikki!

Nikki okay I've been talking with some people over there, an english branch of one of my breeds' top kennels Applethorne Aussies. I really would suggest you talk to her about the way you should go about having your dog viewed, and what to use to help better the breed.

if you'd like I will PM you her e-mail addy so you two can talk more in depth, and she may even know some good lab people who can help you out as well!

sorry it's been so long you guys all know how much I like to talk so it's been a slow conversation, we've been compareing our opinions of different dogs..... eheheheh
