LOL @ you guys!

Our small town has a pretty good 4th of July parade... lots of homemade floats, big tractors, horses, and of course candy throwing.. lol

We usually have the usual cookout - beer, brats, hotdogs (must be burnt) & hamburgers...baked beans, pasta salad chips and misc snack stuff...

The town is well known around north Iowa for having the largest ground display fireworks - and many surrounding towns schedule their displays around ours which is kinda neat!

I wasn't able to get here yesterday so I'll tell ya what I did.

Woke at 7am, on the sofa, with a hangover (had apple vodka the night before...YIKES!). Took 46 ibuprophen and 3 cups of coffee (I rarely drink that much coffee) and a banana and after 2 hours I figured that wasn't working so I had a beer. That worked like a charm!

Had company come over around noon. Cooked chicken and sausage on the grill. Used BBQ sauce on chicken (has anyone tried "Stubbs" brand? It's incredible!) and put half the sausage in a tray with peppers and onions and the other half of the sausage in a tray with marinara sauce. Had potato salad, deviled eggs, mac salad, tomato slices...pineapple upsidedown cake and watermelon (couldn't bring myself to spike it) for dessert. The weather was stupendous...real warm but a nice breeze blowing all day (so my mother-in-law didn't melt...lol!). At dusk...down in the valley...the show started. I can sit in my backyard and see three different towns and their firework displays. It's as if they are trying to out-do the other. It got even breezier after the fireworks were over. We thought a storm was coming but it never materialized. Went to bed around midnight and slept in today until 8am when the cat stuck his ass in my face to "wake mommy to feed him". Quite a rude awakening actually!

Yes, I have today off...and man do I need it!

LixyChick 07-05-2004 08:03 AM

Oh...and Fussy love?

We [Americans] say "al-um-in-um" foil...and in some cases "tin" foil...just to piss you all off so you won't want us back!

*raspberries*

LOL!

Lixy, you're probably the only one besides me who would think it rude to be awakened by having a pussy stuck in your face.

No, I don't have today off, the turtles need me. Animals don't take days off.

OMG Rock, I remember those things from when I lived out in Cali. You would sit on the grass and it looked like the fireworks were raining down on you. Nothing here in SD compares to Cali.

We spent the weekend at the Lake house with family. Lots of food, beer, vodka and lemonades (yummy)! It was a great time, the fireworks display put on by all my neighbors was great. Just sat in the yard and craned my neck around to look at all the competing vacationers! I keep on wanting to take out the canoe and sit in the middle of the lake to watch, it would be beautiful. This year we could have, because my parents were around to watch the baby, but unfortunately I wasn't feeling much up to it due to the beautiful black eye(it looks a bit like a water color) I obtained from bumping heads with above mentioned baby(he's fine btw...).;)

Grumble 07-05-2004 04:47 PM

ohh poor Huntersgirl, your baby is a wife beater already

My love Curvy celebrates 4th July (mmmmmmmm how come it is 4th July instead of July 4?????) another reversal, you americans are so inconsistant) by attending the fireworks with her kids in Billings Montana. She has a very neurotic dog named Rowenea that has to be sedated because of the fireworks.

I celebrate Australia Day (26th January) by helping run a special regional Little Athletics event and a Senior athletic twilight meeting later in the day.

I stayed home this year, and I was impressed by how many different state license plates I saw when I walked about the neighborhood at my sister in law’s. 13 of them! We certainly travel a lot over the July 4th weekend.

fredchabotnick 07-05-2004 10:48 PM

I went downtown on the 3rd and 4th for fireworks and the taste of Chicago. Each time well fortified with vodka. It's a good thing that I had today off to recover.
