Steph, I've been trying to find out what "langusten" is and the nearest I've been able to figure is it's related to lobsters ... a form of crustacean. All references seem to be in German but I've been unable to get a literal translation.

One 'English' paragraph was, "Beside Langusten can be prepared also lobsters, emperor garnet (Scampo) and giant shrimps like the Tigerprawns in a fruchtigen Tomatensauce. All kinds of crustacean profit from slow refining by moderate heat. Thus the meat remains tenderly and juicy."

I know that doesn't read well, and don't know if that helps, but it's about the best I could do. :rolleyes2

Tonight, it's a roasted chicken with steamed asparagus and a nice green salad on the side. Then later...I'll sneak into the kitchen and abscond with the carbs I so desperately need!

Steph 07-12-2005 05:12 PM

Thanks for the langusten updates! I'm craving seafood now!

Man, I really think I'll be having a healthy dinner of Mr. Freezies and juice. Too. hot. to. cook.

Cheyanne 07-12-2005 06:48 PM

What I am craving...not necessarily what we are having for dinner...

Romaine Lettuce with chicken, strawberries, blueberries, walnuts & poppyseed dressing... yum... :D

1 pkg. (10 oz.) romaine salad greens
1 pkg. (6 oz.) OSCAR MAYER Oven Roasted Chicken Breast Cuts
1 can (15 oz.) mandarin orange segments, drained
2 cups sliced strawberries
1/2 of a medium red onion, sliced (I omit this and replace with blueberries)
1/2 cup PLANTERS Sliced Almonds or Walnuts
1/2 cup KRAFT Special Collection Creamy Poppyseed Dressing

TOSS romaine in large bowl with chicken cuts, oranges, strawberries and onion.
SPRINKLE with almonds or walnuts.
DRIZZLE with dressing.

Steph - with all of that multi-cultural cuisine you are making me wish we lived near you! :D

I know that's not the only reason you want to live closer.

*wink, wink, nudge nudge* :x:

Galatea 07-12-2005 08:15 PM

Just finished the dishes.

Fried chicken breasts, black eyed peas, biscuits, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, sweet tea and brownies.

We had company over for dinner....

flutelady 07-12-2005 08:19 PM

A huge mixed green salad, tempura zucchini and tempura prawns... and a big glass of sun tea.

fzzy 07-12-2005 11:25 PM

tonight I'm going easy and simple ... egg drop raman soup ... most of the liquid drained off ... I add a few veggies just to keep it balanced a bit... and wild cherry flavored sparkling water.

Steph 07-13-2005 05:28 PM

hot Mexican salami (screw you veggie salami, you imposter!) & provolone on rosemary crustini & a baked red onion (ahahaha Cheyanne, that's right!) & tomato salad

If there is a world record for Mr. Freezie consumption, I am well on the way to beating it

Cheyanne 07-13-2005 05:46 PM

LOL @ Steph... I like onions! Just don't like them with my berrie!

Tonight - frozen pizza (cooked of course)..

BIBI 07-13-2005 07:05 PM

Winston77 07-13-2005 08:13 PM

maddy 08-26-2005 07:28 PM

*bump* soon I'll have a kitchen to cook dinner in again.

Fangtasia 08-26-2005 07:29 PM

Food :D

dunno yet dinner time is too far away

Steph 08-26-2005 08:06 PM

Yay to the bump! I kept meaning to find this thread again but I guess I was too busy eating!

Today was a stir fry but yesterday was gigantic spareribs & a potato salad with a bunch of different mini taters with dill.

The day before was unreal! Cod, giant shrimp and scallops in bacon! I am so unvegetarian now!

On the menu for tomorrow is Artic char, eggs & seven-year-old Canuck cheddar.

Yes, I'm planning on buying a sturdier chair soon.

wyndhy 08-26-2005 08:21 PM

a salad from the salad place at the mall.....and, okay maybe i pilfered a chicken nugget or two :p

osuche 08-26-2005 09:18 PM

Tostitos....obviously. :rolleyes2

BigBear57 08-26-2005 09:45 PM

I had 2 soft chicken tacos... yummy

sodaklostsoul 08-26-2005 10:36 PM

I had PB&J after I got home from work cause Boog took kiddo to Micky D's. :(

wyndhy 08-27-2005 11:51 AM

spaghetti and meatballs i think

Steph 08-27-2005 12:14 PM

I got caught feeding the remains of my omelet to the dog today. :D

The chef put the Arctic char in the omelet and it was a bit too rich for me. I assumed it would be on the side.

Lilith 08-27-2005 12:54 PM

shish kebabs

wyndhy 08-27-2005 02:03 PM

Lilith 08-27-2005 02:16 PM

wyndhy 08-27-2005 08:09 PM

double mmmmmmmmm^^^^^^^

Steph 08-28-2005 05:40 AM

We were talking about a trendoid restaurant in town that serves swordfish impaled on a sword. Apparently, shish kebabs are served that way when done authentically, also.

I feel like a nerd right now.

Lilith 08-28-2005 06:42 AM

Don't feel like a nerd, I was telling the kids and their friend who was over, something about that when we were eating them.

Steph 08-28-2005 08:33 AM

So, the underlying message is that you're in denial about your nerdom status, too?

osuche 08-28-2005 11:04 AM

Who knows? I haven't had breakfast yet!

But I *do* know I am making more baba today. :)

LixyChick 08-28-2005 12:39 PM

^^^Looking at all the yummy stuff and still contemplating that stuff Steph doesn't know wtf it is!

Shame too...cause till just this Friday I had a German girl working with me...and I am sure the spelling is definitely German and I coulda asked her for exactness. Where's "German Steve" when we need him??? *sigh*

Anyway...to get back to the topic...Mr. Lixy is in charge of meals this summer (and prolly all summer's before this one) as I have no time to plan meals and shop for them and cook. He does the BBQ thing nearly every night. Tonight we are having fresh Blue Fin tuna on the grill (mmmmmmmm), corn straight from the farm down the street (picked today) and sliced tomatoes from Jersey (baby sis...from Jersey...came for a visit last week)!

He'll grill the tuna just slightly because it's so fresh that you could use it for sushi (sp?) and it's prolly the best tuna I've ever had. His boss goes out for a day and brings us some of his catch. Can't overcook it or it'll be ruined. Has anyone ever had fresh (never frozen) tuna steaks straight from the sea to your table? OMG! It's good eating personified!!!!!

Steph 08-30-2005 10:04 AM

I grew up on the ocean. Not too long ago, they caught a 600-lb. tuna near my place. I wish I had been on the shore when they brought it in!

I was lucky enough to have a piece of cod almost straight from the ocean as my last meal before I became vegetarian. I think I shed a few tears at its unbelievable goodness.

WildIrish 08-30-2005 01:34 PM

Last night it was homemade chicken fajitas with rice, black beans & a salad on the side.

Tonight it's meatloaf, roasted red potatoes with dill & a local farm grown tomato salad with fresh parsley, shredded cheese & onions. :slurp:

wyndhy 08-30-2005 01:38 PM

yum^^^^

i've got a rib eye roast for tonight. i'll do potatoes of some kind and zucchini with stewed tomatoes, pine nuts and parm cheese.
last night was shrimp scampi over linguini with a salad

WildIrish 08-30-2005 01:58 PM

mmmmmm.....I love shrimp scampi!

osuche 08-30-2005 08:23 PM

sushi or salad....whatever I don't have to cook

BigBear57 08-30-2005 08:24 PM

had a chef's salad... again
