bump (for Pita)

Pita 03-02-2013 12:30 PM

Thank you Gigi. I have been really struggling with this monthly nightmare since my mid 40's. I'm now researching the idea of getting an ablation. My sister had one and thinks its the best thing she ever did. Anyone else have any ideas if I should get one or not?

I had a friend who had one. I did not have that option because I had a tumor. It did not solve her problem in the long run.

I had an ablation 2 yrs ago. I've not had a period since. I had been having 10-14 day periods every 2 wks...and they were SUPER heavy. I went to a new gyn and he suggested we try the NovaSure (uterine ablation). I started yet another period 3 days before the surgery. We went ahead as scheduled and when he was checking me just prior to surgery, he was like, "dang you ARE bleeding awfully heavy..."...I told him I had been trying to tell someone that for 2 yrs at that point and no one would listen! I just kept being told it was "normal" because I'm overweight when I brought it up at my old doc. It was the best thing I ever did. I still have all my hormones because I still have my ovaries. Just, the rest of the equipment no longer functions.

Shadow Dancer that is just what I wanted to hear. I have a tendency to just put up with things, but soaking a tampon and pad every freaking hour or less for almost two days straight with terrible cramps is just getting freaking old. Especially when my body won't do its thing on my days off.

I have a physical scheduled next month with a new doc and we will be discussing the NovaSure.

Pita--I totally understand putting up with things. I've been that way too...but bleeding nonstop (minus about 3-4 days total a month), just was NOT on my "necessary to my eternal happiness" list! LOL. I was having to wear both pads and super tampons at the same time and it was awful! My doc was able to do my procedure in the office--a friend of mine had to go into the hospital...I guess it just depends on if your docs office is equipped to do it or not *shrug*...so, my insurance covered all of it minus my office visit copay! :) Talk about it with your doctor...he/she will give you the pros and cons. But I LOVE the after effects...so does my husband! HAHA!

Don't put up with it! I had all of those issues as well. I was teaching an all boy class of kids with emotional and behavioral disorders. Nothing like trying to ward off a kid beating your ass and bleeding into your shoes simultaneously. Make sure you get an internal ultrasound to make sure it is nothing more serious than fibroids.

Thanks Shadow and Lil. I definitely plan to talk to this doctor and get something done. I'll keep you posted. :)

Grump....grump....grump.

I am so freaking grumpy. I got an IUD in April. Very happy and all that jazz. Then last night....it FUCKING FELL OUT! Just...whoop...out. And now I had to go to the doctor and got a new one. Crap and christ. And it hurt like a fucker.

WHERE THE HELL IS THE CHOCOLATE??? :curse:

Lilith 07-17-2013 03:50 PM

Oooooo another reason so be glad for my currently wombless state.

*hands gigi the hot water bottle*

gigi 07-17-2013 04:58 PM

...gratefully accepting it....finding a bag of M&Ms on the table....curling up.....

damned uterus.

Pita 07-19-2013 09:32 AM

(((((((Gigi)))))))))

You want some chocolate cake? Icecream? A 10 lb bar of dark, creamy chocolate? :)

gigi 07-20-2013 04:15 PM

((((((((Pita))))))))

Thanks ....and yes, to all. ;)

I'm actually feeling much better. This seems to be a bit different than my first IUD. Lets hope this one takes...

gigi 09-02-2013 02:59 PM

Well, I am about to take it all back. I started my period about a week ago. It seemed okay but now...*TMI ALERT*....passing huge clots along with the bleeding. I am now rocking the oh-so-fashionable heavy flow pad and a tampon. I am worried because the heavy clotting was occurring before I last rejected an IUD.
(and when I called my doctor, they told me not to be overly concerned and "it hasn't even been a week yet")

*sigh*

Fangtasia 09-02-2013 08:38 PM

Damn the monthlies i reckon!!

I am getting mine cured for good this year, gotta head up to the surgeon tomorrow to see if a date can be worked out. I've been getting mine every 10 days, bleeding for 5-6, very painful, very heavy, and i am very much over it!
