Dadaist and raven18 have the right idea, here. We all have stories, it seems, about meeting people from online. Can't be scared to take a chance, it's not much different from asking someone on a date as far as fear of rejection and possible relationship failures.

My first online girlfriend has been engaged to a guy from the net an had it break up. It's easy to lie on the net about yourself, it's also easier to only show what you want, but think about it. Is the guy at the deli guaranteed to be more "normal" then the guy who posted a bio of himself to an online dating service? They also have telephone dating services, which can be just as scary. The advantage is, you can meet ANYONE online.

It's like, I believe it's possible to find a compatable mate here (online), especially considering I live in a small town with poor transporation options. It's a big world and we're all looking for a needle in a haystack, proverbally. Of course, if I don't pop my head outside and look around 3-4 times a week she might be right next door, how would I know?

I've visted a few people from the net, I've had a few visit me. My dream is to get rich and through a big bar-b-que and fly in all my IRC friends, like a big chat room with no X in the corner :)

My 2 cents.

I met someone here at Pixies a few months ago and, after untold quantities of PMs and e-mails, we finally talked on the phone for the first time a couple of days ago. He has the sexiest voice I've heard in a long, long time! As far as I can tell, he's an honest, caring person and he has alleviated a lot of my fears in regard to "fake" people you meet on-line. We are planning our first in- person meeting for the beginning of April. I can't wait to put a face and body to the words and sexy voice...I hope he's feeling the same! :loveshowe

Meet someone on the internet? On Pixies? Move in with them? Marry them? Have a child with them?

Oh I couldn't possibly do anything like that!

Oldfart 03-15-2007 04:13 PM

Lou, you're right of course.

I've met people online and I honestly have to say it's not really much different than meeting someone in a bar or whatever.

Yeh I met my OH online about 5 years ago and met in person over 2 years ago. I can honestly say that we've somehow created this really strong, really respectful relationship, and I'm often shocked when I think of all the slightest chance things that put us both in that place at that time. It's nice to be here where people understand that, we got a lot of grief at first, especially from my parents who couldn't see past it. They're much better now they've forgotten our origins...

Even still when people say "How did you meet?" I can often be tempted to give a misleading answer.

I met my OH online too, nearly 3 years ago - we've just had our 2nd anniversary, it took us 7 months to meet up in person - we took our time, got to know each other properly, spilled all our secrets first - then met up and shagged like rabbits. erm...lol

No - in all seriousness, we really did take our time with everything - because my parents were not keen on me dating someone I'd met online and also who was much older than me (I'm 27, He's 39). But when they met him, they really liked him and knew he was a good guy. We've not been without problems, but I don't think I could be without him now.

My Joe and I met almost two years ago online. Last week we celebrated one year of living together. It just keeps getting better and better. :)

Yes, I'm somewhat shy when I tell people that we met online - particularly, because I know the response is always 'Oh really, what dating site did you use?' Very few people, get the full and honest answer about Pixies!

Oldfart 03-17-2007 04:05 PM

"Not a dating site dear, a common interest group."

Loulabelle 03-17-2007 04:08 PM

That's exactly what I say! LMAO

ReaperWoman 03-17-2007 04:57 PM

I'm worse. I usually give some extremely vague answer regarding a "mutual friend". It's almost true... His friend introduced him to the forum and I knew his friend before I knew him, so....

.... hey - it's not like I tell this to people I know well, just distant co-workers and the likes. His mum tells people we were "pen-pals"...
