Aqua 10-15-2008 06:42 PM

I got that from a friend of mine.

I love the Longcat / Tacgnol pics!

My fave part is the guitar solo cat. I could hear the solo in my head the first time I read through that! :p

As I walk along Razberry Creek I enjoy the feel of the sun on my face and the bubbling and gurgling of the water as it rushes over the rocks.

And, the Great Pumpkin rose out of the pumpkin patch on Halloween ...

(A pumpkin patch just a short distance from our little town. Not bright orange Halloween pumpkins, these are used for pie filling and are canned by Libby's here in our town.)

This one's not so much to show off my photog skills (good thing, too), but to show off my latest woodcrafting project. It's a purpose-built corner cabinet for our tv & related items I built to fit exactly in this corner of our den. The project began nearly two years ago, after the demolition of our leaning chimney & install of a wall, patio doors & patio cover in its place. It was built just outside under the carport (the only place I had room to work on such a monster), leading to many complaints from mrs zoid about her lack of space to park her cruiser, & one semi-anonymous letter from the neighborhood assn about the mess on our property  I modified some plans from Norm (New Yankee Workshop) to suit my own needs, & I must confess it's not completely done yet...still need knobs for the doors & some baseboard trim at the base, but it's close enough to finished that I can sit back & bask in the glow for a little while...

FlirtWithMe 02-13-2009 02:22 PM

You built that yourself, Scotz? WOW! I am seriously impressed :faint:

Aqua 02-13-2009 02:58 PM

I could see Lilith enjoying herself as the woman in this picture...

Lilith 02-13-2009 04:36 PM

Aqua- that was awesome.

Aqua 02-13-2009 04:45 PM

I immediately thought of you when I saw it. ;)

Oldfart 02-13-2009 06:25 PM

Nah, Lil's stockings sit lower on her thighs.

NP themi01, I'm not ashamed to say I've spent a goodly portion of my life working my wood :sperm: seriousness aside, I've made many small projects before such as spinners & wooden boxes, but apart from some crude shelf units, this was my first ever major free-standing real furniture project. My contractor/guitar-player buddy has already expressed his admiration for the mitered corners; I say they're all the more amazing in that I've never mitered a corner before in my life!

PantyFanatic 02-14-2009 11:52 AM

:hippy: Lava Lite :hippy:

 How kool, Zoid. Anybody that can make something out of wood has my highest respect. For me, it's like carving jello with a hammer and chisel.

Now don't you wish you had Norm's "....after we finish here at the micrometer set, central vacuum chip/dust collector system, plainer, (and before going to the flame suppression, static neutralized finishing room) we'll take this to the laser-aligning dovetail joiner and then to the self-centering biscuit cutter to do the next operation......", or is that why it took you more than two days to do your project? ;)

themi01 02-14-2009 01:01 PM

Actually PF all my work and I take pride in this is done the old fashioned way knife and by eye I even sometimes use antique finishes but your right Norms shop is over the top

themi01 02-14-2009 01:03 PM

And wait Zoid you never mitered a corner before ? even by eye ?

I would love to see these if you wouldn't mind sharing. My dad used to make the same when he was alive

The Lava Lamp was mrs zoid's idea...I got rid of my strobe/black light years ago (& I've been kicking my own ass for it ever since)

And just to prove how things always come around in cycles, #2 son insisted on having one of his own after seeing his mom's....

EXACT-A-MONDO!!!

Actually, I find the most disturbing thing about NYWS is not that he has all the great expensive tools (can you say product placement?), but how un-naturally CLEAN Norm's shop is...I wouldn't know how to work in an environment where I don't have to watch every step, or worry that my pounding one item on the bench might cause another object to crash to the floor...

Never had a reason to...I've done nearly all kinds of other joinery but as I said, I never did a furniture type project or trimmed out a door/window myself...

But I do know that mitering a corner by eye means you'll be doing it again real soon...

FlirtWithMe 02-14-2009 11:45 PM

How on earth did I miss the Lava Lamp when I first looked? Did you change the pic? I never even noticed it was there! Now of course it's the first thing I see when I look at the pic

scotzoidman 02-15-2009 12:12 AM

Well, no, I didn't change the pic, but I'll take it as a compliment that my brilliant craftsmanship outshone the 60's kitsch (at least in your eyes)...

Random pics of a frozen lake and a visitor I spotted in a tree just outside the house. Haven't seen a squirrel in these parts for a couple of years so I was glad to catch it on camera :)

The first squirrel pic is slightly blurry, but I was using the zoom at full stretch (10.7x) with no tripod so in that respect I guess it's not too bad as a snapshot pic. The second squirrel pic is less blurry, again taken with full zoom and no tripod. It was a bloody cold day, too, so I was rushing to get back inside as I was out there with not many clothes on :p

PantyFanatic 02-15-2009 03:17 AM

I'm still seriously impressed that you have that lava lamp.

(Does that have my initials scratched on the bottom? )

PantyFanatic 02-15-2009 03:34 AM

Your pics are great FWM :) ..... and the red squirrel with the winter ear tuffs is most interesting to us across the pond. :thanks:

I spotted a new place on the marginal today that recently opened. HAD to circle back to take a pic. I may go back in the daylight to get a better pic. ;)

Lord Snow 10-17-2009 08:58 PM

Wait, how did they get bears to make cabinets? Or are they bears in cabinets? Or are they cabinets with bears on them? And if that's the case are they real bears sitting on the cabinets or are they pictures of bears painted (or otherwise) on the cabinets? And while I'm at it, what do bears have to do with cabinets anyway?

Oldfart 10-17-2009 09:42 PM

I can't bear not knowing, either.

And I wonder if they use Behr wood finishes exclusively?

Just spent the day taking/editing random pics of LOUD.

Don't try to distract and polarize our members with your grizzly comments. I did make a daytime trip back and at great peril I parked on the edge of the shore way while it wasn't busy and clawed my way over the fence to the marginal to get a pic of the kodiak carpenters. I guess they don't work on Saturday.

We flew over the Franklin and Gordon Rivers today, where a massive environmental battle was fought with the Government who wanted to dam this significant wilderness area.

The colour in the picture of Sir John falls is true, the water is Coke coloured from all the tannin from the forest.
