Dream Job

**The job you choose must be a real job, with a W-2 or 1099 earnings (legal earnings in other countries, this is the US equivalent) taxed by the government**

The above ^^ is just to make things a little more challenging....

So, what's your "dream job"? If you had to start all over again, which career would you pursue?

jseal 03-29-2008 11:54 AM

I would like to be a professor of History.

Pita 03-29-2008 03:17 PM

I would love to be an interior designer. We have been putting together a huge crate containing all the things we want in our future home and I just know that interior design runs in my blood.

Or, I'd like to be a chocolatier.

1nutworld 03-29-2008 04:58 PM

I actually applied this week for my "dream job", as I submitted my application to the Detroit Tigers Media Relations Coordinator position.

The job description is very similar to what I do with my job for Western Michigan University, except that it is obviously not only 6 days a year, like WMU home football games.

The problem of course, is that I don't have a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Sports Managment or related field, so there is no way that I will get due consideration, I think that the letter of recomendation from WMU will be of help though, should it arrive with my application.

IowaMan 03-29-2008 05:03 PM

Given that I wasn't talented enough to play second base for the Chicago Cubs, I'd have to say my "dream job" would be to be either a radio or television broadcaster for them. I started off on that path when I was in college but somewhere along the line I took the wrong fork in the road. :(

Hey nutworld, I'll send you my B.A. in Communications. I don't happen to be using it. You're more than welcome to it. :thumb:

PantyFanatic 03-29-2008 05:09 PM

I'm a mechanical engineer by training, and physics by love. I think it should have been the other way around.

dicksbro 03-29-2008 07:57 PM

Guess I'd love to be either an artist (my degree was in fine arts) or a photographer (something I've learned to love). Actually, I might tend to the photography business now.

Noah 03-29-2008 08:24 PM

I would have liked to be a Vet, Vet Assistant, Horse Stud Manager or Farmer

Oldfart 03-29-2008 08:28 PM

I can't decide.

Probably an Aviation Photographer.

FallenAngel5 03-29-2008 09:42 PM

I love what I do now - I'm a math professor - but I'd love to do it at a higher level. Or I'd love to have the expertise to be a full-blown mathematician.

But my dream would be to have no job at all and not have that be a hindrance. :)

scotzoidman 03-29-2008 09:51 PM

There was a time I would have liked to have been an artist of some type, started out wanting to be a cartoonist...eventually I was able to call myself a graphic artist of sorts, but hell, I was really just a printer...

What I really wanted on my resume was Rock Star (does that come with a W-2?)...lacking good looks & charisma, I would have settled for session musician, or maybe A&R man (record producer).

How many producers does it take to change a light bulb? Two...one to change the bulb, one to say how much he liked the first one.

LixyChick 03-29-2008 11:37 PM

Didja ever see the show where the guy goes around the world trying out all kinds of alcoholic drink? I've always wondered...How the hell does someone get that job? But...naaaaaa, that's not it!

Didja ever see the show where the people go from town to town in search of the origin of a supposed, significant, historical artifact? I'm glued to the TV till I find out, along with the rest of the viewers, if it's authentic or bogus. And...how the hell do you interview to be the "detective" for that show? But...naaaaaa...that's not it either!

Didja ever walk on the moon or discover a petrified piece of wood or test a new drug for the cure for cancer...or...or...or

Oops! I can't get a W-2 for those ^^^

So anyway...I'm destined to be what I am now till I can figure out what I wanted to be.

I've ALWAYS had trouble with this question! Just ask my high school guidance counselor (<--- a joke of a person who accepted my answer to her question, "What do you want to do when you graduate?". To which I replied, "I want to be a mortician!".) YIKES! I don't really like dead things...let alone dead human type things!

PantyFanatic 03-30-2008 12:01 AM

Lol ^^^

Lilith 03-30-2008 04:50 PM

I'd be a pro- domme :D For tax purposes a behavior mod specialist.

fzzy 03-30-2008 10:01 PM

writer. Did I mention, I'd like to be a writer....yep, that's it, I'd like to be a writer. (I know ... you can tell from the foregoing, I have a real way with words) ... LOL!

rabbit 04-12-2008 11:04 AM

I'd be a professional bowler. I used to be pretty good in my youth before I lost interest.

Neige 04-12-2008 11:30 AM

Y'know, I've thought a lot about this since the thread was posted. I think I have my dream job. I love archaeology.

However, if I ever get bored with it, I'll go into food. I'd be a wicked pastry chef, don't you think? :D And my mentor is already planning for the restaurant I'll be opening years from now! :p

jay-t 04-12-2008 12:55 PM

I really love the job that I have as a machinist/toolmaker/artist blacksmith, being able to make something useful or pretty to look at with my hands is a very satisfying and fulfilling job and hobby. The only thing better would be being able to make a living as an artist

bh4229 05-10-2008 04:28 PM

dream job

i think I would be a piano player in a whorehouse! :)

musicman 05-12-2008 08:19 PM

one with a steady paycheque ;)

Neige 05-13-2008 01:51 PM

w00t!!! I just learned that I'm going to be working again on the same project as last year this summer for Parks Canada!!!!!! It's really a dream job! :D (And even better, the boss is trying to get me higher wages than last year! :D)

smoothballs 05-13-2008 05:23 PM

should have gone in the airforce as a engineer, instead of sitting on my backside in a office all day,

Lilith 05-14-2008 04:29 AM

I wish I were still working primarily with high functioning autistic children.

AngelicVampires 05-21-2008 01:20 PM

My ultimate dream job (since kindergarten) was to be a Veterinarian. I'll be working on my Veterinary Technician degree in the fall...perhaps I will go back to school and work more towards the whole Vet thing again...

Coaster 10-21-2008 12:14 PM

I have my dream job......... it's enjoyable working with different "models" every day..... just tougher to pay the bills now than it was when it was just a hobby!

Hey osuche.... you started this... what's your dream job?

Aqua 10-21-2008 01:05 PM

Hmmmm, good question.

I enjoy helping people and like being creative. I like making people laugh. I like working with computers.

What job lets me do all that?

Working for joecartoon.com or some other website that will pay you to draw short cartoon flicks that make people laugh.

I've always had a problem with this question as well. I love reading and watching movies. Other than being a critic (which I hate critics), I can't think of a job that would let me read and watch movies all day. Though I'm fairly happy being a blue collar warehouse worker and moving up the ranks to white collar. I'm one of those odd people that find satisfaction in working up the chain rather than being hired in at the position and not knowing anything about the system.

Nuelaan 10-21-2008 11:13 PM

in reply to PF I am a physics by training and software engineer by employ. There are no real jobs in physics.

Actually I am enjoying my current job as much as I think I could enjoy any job that isn't professional test pilot. I get to travel all over the US, (just spent 5 weeks in Hawaii). Get home for most weekends. Do something meaningful that helps people, and get paid well for it.

But professional test pilot in a heartbeat. Maybe Chef.

lizzardbits 10-22-2008 05:35 AM

When I grow up, I wanna be a high school or community college Biology teacher. I am 3/4ths the way there, I just have a little bit of university to finish up and student teaching. Someday, oh yes, it will be mine....

Either that or a lactation consultant--another "passion" of mine. This week alone I am going to 2 breastfeeding support groups and a breastfeeding peer supporter class, so I kinda am being a lac consult. just not paid.

All that with a side job of being a herpetologist. :p

blkcat 10-23-2008 06:50 PM

I have mine Retirement :cheerlead  :line:
