Can't believe I'm doing this ...

Wasn't much on TV and in switching channels came across some old Tom and Jerry cartoons ...

and I'm watching them ...

and laughing.

Those old cartoons are cute. Do any of you ever watch any? What are your favorites?

jennaflower 05-31-2003 04:57 PM

my son is watching exactly the same thing... LOL.. they are ageless and wonderful...

Christine 05-31-2003 04:59 PM

My 4 year old loves them...and so does her mom!

Sharni 05-31-2003 05:18 PM

I love cartoons.......

Who's lives down in deepest darkest Africa? Africa...
Who's the one who brought the jungle fame?
Who's the King of Animals in Africa?
Kimba the White Lion is his name!

When we get in trouble and we're in a fight?
Who's the one who just won't turn and run?
Who believes in doing good and doing right?
Kimba the White Lion is the one!

Scarecrow 05-31-2003 06:18 PM

scooby dooby doo where are you

BigBear57 05-31-2003 08:09 PM

Oh I have to get in a good saturday's Tom & Jerry once in awhile. Unfortunately I've been force fed SpongeBob Squarepants lately, but I won't complain. I thank God the Barney days are over.

Uncle Silky 05-31-2003 08:11 PM

I hate when people say they can't believe they're watchin cartoons, like it was footage of babies gettin raped by mules or sumthin. They're cartoons, they're funny, and there's no age limitation attached to em. Enjoy em. They're just as valid entertainment-wise as anything else. Not to mention the fact that it takes a fuckuva lot more effort to create a good cartoon than it does for standard programming. One of the few good things left on TV these days.

Scarlett 05-31-2003 08:39 PM

I love the old cartoons. I am thankful for the Cartoon Network so my children can emjoy them too.

wench 05-31-2003 09:34 PM

Gotta love those oldies but goodies.

hitachi 05-31-2003 10:33 PM

watch cartoons all the time, with or without my kids. When I stop thats when I know I am getting old.

Cheyanne 05-31-2003 10:42 PM

LOL My cell phone's ring tone is Scooby Doo..

Sugarsprinkles 06-01-2003 04:14 AM

Gotta love those "oldies but goodies" like Tom & Jerry, Popeye, all the Disney cartoons, Mighty Mouse and, for my money, the best................LOONEY TUNES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"I keep m' feathers numbered for just such an ocassion!"

Spent the morning after our wedding watching 'toons on the TV in the hotel.......

dicksbro 06-01-2003 05:29 AM

A lot of new cartoons are almost "illustrated adventure stories" rather than humor. That's fine and some are quite good, but I really like something light that tickles the funny bone.

BlondeCurlGirl 06-01-2003 09:17 AM

I got home late last night and found my dad watching the new Boomerang channel, which is primarily just the old Hanna-Barbara cartoons of the early 60's. They were focusing on 1964 last night, and my dad could sing along to every one of the toons that came on. Guess it goes to show that you never do outgrow them.

airhog 06-01-2003 11:51 AM

I saw a preview for a new looney-toons movie the other day, kind of in the style of Who framed roger rabbit, where they combine animation and live acting...It looks to be really cool.

LixyChick 06-01-2003 12:00 PM

I watch when my husband tunes in.....but I rarely ever tune in purposely on my own. But.....yep! They are still funny. I was never a toon kid though.

You obviously haven't seen Invader Zim, man. Pure comedic platinum.

Cobalt 06-01-2003 05:29 PM

Still do enjoy some of them, far better than the crap that is on tv now days.

Booger 06-01-2003 07:07 PM

one thing you have to remeber a lot of the old cartoons were made for adults

Uncle Silky 06-01-2003 08:32 PM

And the humor in nearly all the new ones is, too.

krzykrn 06-02-2003 02:15 PM

Cartoons are wonderful (granted I am biased since it may be the business I am getting into hehe), but what makes certains great, is they appeal to everyone, no matter what age you were. They are simplistic in what they do, and it is the way they do it...I won't go into a whole disertation on animation lol, but a lot has to do with staging, timing, ect. I miss watching cartoons, especially the old Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry, for some reason Cartoon Network is NOT part of my basic cable package :( *cry*

When's it on? What channel?

Scarlett 06-03-2003 08:12 AM

Invader Zim rocks! That's one of my favorite new cartoons.
It comes on Nickelodeon but I don't think it has a set time. I used to see it on Friday nights, but haven't seen it in awhile.

Uncle Silky 06-03-2003 11:09 AM

Zim's been cancelled, but Nickelodeon still airs reruns on the weekends. Not sure what time. In the afternoons at some point.

dicksbro 06-03-2003 11:31 AM

Thanks, Uncle Silky ... I'll be on the lookout for it!

Scarlett 06-03-2003 02:37 PM

I wonder why it was cancelled?

Uncle Silky 06-03-2003 03:40 PM

The humor was too obscure for kids, and the animation was deemed too 'dark and moody' for Nickelodeon. If Cartoon Network's smart, they'll snatch that muthafucker up and plop it right in the middle of Adult Swim. And if they don't, well... I still got all the episodes on DVD. Jhonen Vasquez is the mack's mack.

RangerGuy20 06-03-2003 04:34 PM

Tom & Jerry is my all time favorite cartoon, every time I watch them I die laughing. I also watch bugs bunny, daffy duck, and all those older cartoons. The more I look back at those old cartoons, they were really violent, and racist to a point. The new ones are good, but they are done by computers and not hand-drawn by people.

Uncle Silky 06-03-2003 05:03 PM

Not all of em, Ranger. Quite a few are still hand-drawn. And those that aren't are just as artistically sound as those that are. It's all art, just with a different execution and delivery.

dicksbro 06-03-2003 06:51 PM

I liked a lot of the Disney cartoons, but now (at least here) you have to order a special Disney cartoon channel in order to watch them (they don't even run any on the regular Disney channel). Much as I enjoyed them, They're not worth the extra money. Our kids are grown now and so ... well, they'll just have to do without me.

I used to like Duck Tales when it was available.
