Sponge- Bob Queer- Pants???

Could it be?

cherrypie7788 01-21-2005 07:41 AM

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard! I remember back when Harry Potter supposedly promoted witchcraft too :rolleyes2 Puh-lease people.

Then again, I always sorta wondered about his relationship with Patrick :D lol

jseal 01-21-2005 07:53 AM

Lilith,

If debates of this type are to occupy our time, the world must be in far better shape than some people would have us believe.

Lilith 01-21-2005 08:10 AM

Well it seems according to Mr. "strong-willed child" Dobson, gay cartoon characters are worthy of the scrutiny. This must be a prime example of why we need to have private school vouchers :rolleyes2

jseal 01-21-2005 08:35 AM

Lilith,

Mr. Dobson reminds me of the psychologist who criticized the Starkist (I think) Tuna advertisements, as it portrayed Charlie the Tuna attempting to commit suicide.

These people have too much time on their hands.

PantyFanatic 01-21-2005 08:35 AM

Remind me please. This IS 2005....................... right? :spin:

PantyFanatic 01-21-2005 08:42 AM

Heed enough psychologist for what you are REALLY thinking and enough fundamentalists on what you SHOULD be thinking and you WILL want to commit suicide.

I did always wonder about Squidward though.

imaginewithme 01-21-2005 11:08 AM

Geesh, people always trying to make something bad out of stuff. GIVE IT A REST
I'm so sick of it........it's everywhere. People either wanna talk shit about ya, run their mouths, start shit or even like this.....its a freakin' cartoon, get a grip and worry about something worth while!

faerie_princess 01-21-2005 11:29 AM

Its finally gotten to the point where our society has nothing better to do then accuse spongebob of being a homosexual. I can't believe that we have nothing else to talk about. How about the Tsunami (even tho i'm tired of haering about that too) or even the fact that we could have paid off our national debt with the money that was spent on Bush's innagural ball. WTFlying Monkey!

Aqua 01-21-2005 11:43 AM

Better go after Bugs next... you know how he dresses as a girl bunny sometimes. Or what about Fred 'Twinkle Toes' Flintstone? "You'll have a gay ol' time!'. And get after that Peanuts cartoon... I think Peppermint Patty and Marcie might be planning a coming out episode... :rolleyes2

Everybody will be tired of hearing about this …………………… except the millions of humans who lost hundreds of thousand loved ones and everything they know as life.

All the more reason to pump up a bullshit curtain.

BIBI 01-21-2005 01:38 PM

Am I the only person who has never seen Sponge Bob Square Pants?

osuche 01-21-2005 03:23 PM

Maybe he is SUPPOSED to be GAY...Aren't we trying to teach our kids tolerance?

osuche 01-21-2005 03:27 PM

Addendum: I just thought of a new reality show:

Queer Eye for the Square Pants Guy

:D

BIBI,

Even though I remain certain that Mr. Dobson could more usefully labor in other fields, I must admit that I am defending a show I have not seen. :o

LOL- I’m sure your grandson can show you when he’s on. ;)

Mine sure can. :hair:

I was going to post a pissed-off, witty response, but you know...some things are just to asinine to bother with.

I saw about 60 seconds of an episode once... but I couldn't hear it. Does that count?

I find people like that normally have the most to say, what they know the least about.

jseal 01-21-2005 11:01 PM

Gentlefolk,

Here's a link to the SpongeBob SquarePants movie. Take a look for yourself. :)

http://www.nick.com/all_nick/movies/spongebob/

This isn’t the first time children’s TV has drawn the ire of Christian right wing. Remember Tinky Winky, the purple Teletubbie? That character was also claimed to be homosexual.

Be patient. This too will pass.

Lilith 01-21-2005 11:08 PM

Right but the complaint is that a short film (not a Sponge Bob movie), involving cartoon characters, that encourages people to respect sexual identity among other things, was distributed to schools.

jseal 01-22-2005 12:24 AM

Lilith,

“But wait! That’s not all!”

Dr. Dobson is not even criticizing SB SP!

http://family.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...p?p_faqid=17669

He’s against the video not because of the contents of the video, but because the web site of the sponsor includes this incendiary proposition:

http://www.wearefamilyfoundation.or...ance_pledge.asp

It must be a marvelous thing to be intolerant of someone else’s pledge of tolerance.

scotzoidman 01-22-2005 12:30 AM

Damn, I was wondering why my moron alarm kept going off all day...

By calling it to light this video and its affiliation with this larger organization, we are attempting to do for parents what their busy lives often prevent them from doing themselves--connecting the dots.

Parents who don't have time to connect the dots....who likely don't prioritize their kids (with the exception of taking time to listen to alarmist propaganda).... Now THIS is an issue worth debating!!!!

osuche,

Yes’m, I’ll agree with you there. If, however, that is indeed their concern, then they should raise that issue, rather than fulminating about a cartoon character.

:)

LixyChick 01-22-2005 10:20 AM

But...it's ok for the President to sit next to Sir Elton John at a gala?????? Even the word "gala" should be banned!

I don't get it! Even if...and I mean IF...Sponge Bob is gay...how would children know unless we ban him and make a spectacle of him and make him out as BAD, BAD, BAD? And...who the fuck are these homophobes who scrutinze these cartoons for us? What's that say about them?

It's the same thing as what they did to Pee Wee Herman (Paul Reubans (sp?). Kids wouldn't have known who Paul Reubans was in relation to Pee Wee...or what wanking was...or that some idiotic group considered it wrong to be in a XXX theatre, alone in the dark, and rubbing one out...unless it was splashed all over the media (and it was) and the children were made to realize the correlation.

Why don't we just plaster billboards all over the country (world), specifically showing what is considered wrong and dirty!

Example:

:x: GOOD...unless it is a man and man or woman and woman...then that is BAD!

:line: GOOD...unless it is an all male review and the men are dressed as women...then it is BAD!

:corn: Good...unless the man next to you in the theatre has his dick stuck through the bottom of the cup and you grab a handful and he cums on your corn...then it is BAD!

:lickme: GOOD...if it is on the label of a popsicle...but if it's spoken aloud in the privacy of anyone's bedroom it is BAD! Especially if it's between two women!

:baa: Good...if used for clothing...but BAAAAAAD if used as a sex object!

OMG! How long are we gonna have to take this shit? I know...I know...4 more years, right? Arrggggggggggg! The worst part of that is...by then the seed will be sown and those who remain will "have the power"...and they'll have knocked the progression of the logic-minded people back a century or twelve! Oh.....next we'll have men batting us in the head with a club and dragging us to their caves!!!!!!!

Where's the end of the planet? I wanna get off!

LixyChick,

I know that I’m a bit of a pessimist on this issue, but I suspect that prejudice, intolerance, and discourtesy will be with us always. All people of good will can do is to work to minimize these incivilities whenever possible, and to marginalize those who assert their “right” to brutalize others.

Well Aqua, I don't know.

I think we should apply to the government for a grant to study this in more depth
and detail. Whatcha say we apply for $1,000,00.00 to start and go from there? ;)

All I know is that I am a Sponge Bob Square Pants virgin! :)
AND I plan to keep it that way LOL.

In a country where the [moral] majority rules and the (now) majority are of like mind and think the rest of us are deviant and should be "put in our place and shown the PROPER way to conduct our lives"...I am pessimistic as well! *sigh* The judgements and consequences set forth and handed down by these people scare the shit out of me!
