I prob should post this to the old "baby pictures" thread, but I lack the time & patience to hunt it down...but there's a new baby in the Zoid household, by order of the Queen...

I might add we still have Lucky, (pictured in the above link) but he is getting old...he's got cataracts, runs into things a lot, isn't as frisky as he once was (as am I), but he has his moments where he still enjoys being a dog...we've discussed the end of his time with us, & we wanted to bring in the next pet before we had to deal with our grieving for him...we also thought he might like some company as well, but that hasn't worked out like we had hoped...he just isn't equipped to deal with another dog as being a part of his pack, but we're giving him his space & all the time he needs to (we hope) accept her advances with something other than a snarl & a snap... |
The pup is gorgeous, Scotz!
Sorry to hear about Lucky. Bumping into things sounds so sad. I'd always thought heard that getting a new pup could help the older guy but I've since heard that it's not always the best idea because the old guy can't take the excitement. |

Aww nice doggy. A lovely addition to the household :)
I love dogs, would like to have one, but with us both working It wouldn't be fair on the little blighter. |

Maybe I exagerated a little about the running into things, it's mostly when he tries to move too quickly, taking evasive action to avoid being stepped on & the like...I have say it, he's never been the sharpest tool in the shed to begin with, & he's been losing the battle with the antique drop-leaf table ever since we brought it in...last night I had him still so I could brush him, which gave Riley the chance to sneak up behind him & get a hold of his tail fur with her mouth...it was histerically funny to watch, Lucky didn't seem to realize why he couldn't go anywhere, & she was just holding on the way pups do...if he had realized who was pulling at him, I know he would have turned & snarled again... |
Congrats Scotz...........too cute!!!!!

Sadly, this story did not have a happy ending. Last month, Riley began showing signs of distress when sitting or moving too fast, eventually her back legs stopped working. The vet diagnosed a ruptured disc, some semi-heroic measures were tried (steroid injections), but in the end the decision had to be made to end her suffering. This time, the wife & #2 son attended her final moments & I was spared (some of) the grief. At >70 lbs, bringing her home for burial was not an option, but cremation made that more doable.
Apparently the two sides of her nature, the lethargy of a Lab vs. the extremely active ACD, caused a conflict that her body just couldn't handle; more Heelers suffer terrible injuries than die of old age, from what I've read. But for every ending, there is another beginning...so may I introduce Sydney, Mini Australian Shepard. 3 yr old shelter dog, still quite skittish after having been dumped from her previous home, but she seems to be gradually adjusting that this is her new home, & she's not going anywhere. BTW, yes, this is another Mama's dog... |
so sad to hear about Riley-
Sydney is a cutie |
I'm so sorry about Riley, Scotz. It's so hard to lose furry family.
Sydney's just darling. |
Scotz. Sorry to learn about Riley ... we had to have one of our cats put to sleep just a month or so ago and so I feel the pain you must feel. Sydney looks like a super nice dog and no doubt will help ease the transition.
|
Sorry I'm just now seeing this... I feel for ya Scotz. So sad. :(
I pray Sydney will feel comfortable in your home soon. It sounds like she's well on her way. :) |
