Morning sickness
Ok, now I have your attention... NO, I'm not pregnant!!! lol
For a year or two now, when I don't sleep enough at night, in the morning I am nauseous. For example, last night I went to bed at around 2, and I woke up this morning at 7, and I ended up throwing up. I've noticed a pattern - I only wake up sick if I don't sleep well at night. If I have 7, 8 hours of sleep, I am in perfect shape the next morning. However, if I have less, it makes me sick... This is before I eat, before I do anything really. Why does this happen? I haven't talked to a doc about it, since it rarely happens that I don't get enough sleep, but when I have 459269874 things to do for school, I end up staying up longer/getting up earlier... |
No idea. Do you have an acid stomache? Drinking too much coffee?
Do you feel better after you eat something? |
I don't think I have an acid stomach - I don't suffer from heartburn or anything like that. I very rarely drink coffee (though I do love it), but my drinking it doesn't coincide with my being sick. Usually, after I throw up once (it really just retching since I have nothing in my stomach) everything goes back to normal and I feel great within minutes.
|
I usually have an upset stomach when I'm running on empty. It's especially touchy if I take a vitamin on an empty stomach.
|
Oh yeah, it happened to me all the time. The worst is when it er, comes out the other end.
Also, my eyes would burn in the shower from lack of sleep. Ah, the glory days of grad school! |
i feel terrible if i get 8 hrs of sleep or more....isn't that strange?
|
Hmmmmmmmmm.... PS and Steph get it...... must be a canadian thing! :D

When did you ever have an empty stomach? (she eats like she's going to the elrctric chair :bite: ) :D How can you drink too much coffee? :coffee: |
Only one time I can recall getting sick from a really bad nite's sleep was, ironically enough, at the hospital sleep center when they diagnosed me with sleep apnea...but that bad sleep was the result of sleeping in a strange bed, with a camera on me (so I couldn't spank the monkey), & with my head wired up with electrodes so I felt like the Terminal Man...then when I woke up, they removed the wires with acetone (think soaking your head in nail polish remover) while they fed me the absolutely shittiest cup of vending machine coffee I've ever had...so I guess it should be no surprise that 5 minutes later it felt like I was hurling up my toenails...

Try chewing two antacids every night before you go to bed. Or drink a glass of milk...that might settle things down.
|
WildIrish, the weird thing is - I can sleep for like 12 hours and wake up on an empty stomach and I will feel A-1.
lonelyarmywife, I try to avoid taking medicine for nothing... I'll have to try the glass of milk :) |
*psssss Zoid*
(You don't "spank the monkey". YOU "chock the chicken".) |
PixieSprite- I know what the problem is. You're not sleeping in MY bed. :D
|
I've noticed the same thing, PS. If my body isn't fully recharged, it's just... off. I feel woozy and sick to my stomach. I think it's just the body's reaction to not going through enough REM cycles to fix yesterday's woes. As for how to fix it... get enough sleep? Sometimes that's difficult and I don't have any suggestions for when you know you're not going to sleep enough. But you're not alone.
|
Well I'm glad other people go through the same thing! Everyone I've told has tried to convince me I'm pregnant :D and they have never heard of something like it... It's good to know I'm not alone!

OK Pixie, there are two things I'm thinking of here.
First of all...REAL morning sickness is due to low blood sugar. If you've been up especially late the night before, it stands to reason that your body has used up more calories than if you were sleeping, so it's possible that your blood sugar is low the following morning which makes you feel sick. Try taking some juice before you even get out of bed in the morning if you've had a late one, and see if that makes a difference. Secondly, since night is when our digestive system does a lot of its work, it's possible that by having less sleep, your digestive system isn't getting the opportunity to digest all of the food you've eaten from the night before. Again, in my experience of proper morning sickness, being slightly constipated (meaning the food isn't passing through my system as well as it should) has often made my vomitting worse. I'm assuming that these late nights don't include alcohol, because obviously a hangover would be the obvious reason, but of course a hangover is just dehydration which again can make you feel/be very sick. Make sure you keep your fluid levels up if you're having a late night as while you're awake, you're using more and producing more urine than during your sleeping hours. Since some women still bleed at their usual cycle times when pregnant, I'd suggest you take a test just in case, if you haven't already, but other than that, I wouldn't worry too much. The body works in mysterious ways, and it's probably just its way of complaining that you're not letting it sleep enough! |

Ha! I outsmarted you for your food in Niagara. "If I'm skinny, it'll make my penis look bigger." |
I'm in agreement with Loulabelle and low blood sugar.
Some people feel better if they have a plain cracker or two before getting out of bed. If you choose juice instead, try something low in acid so you don't irritate the stomach lining. |

*SHHHHHH* You're NOT suppose to tell my strategy!! :hair: |

I actually was thinking blocked airway. As a child my tonsils would block my airway at night. I'd get apnea, sleep awful, choke and hurl. Then I'd be fine. |

Crackers in bed again?!?! :banghead: OOOOOOOOOOOooooooK. :loveshowe |
