Dicksbro's thread

Tomorrow is the day you pull out the big guns. It's going to be a tough battle but one I know you can win. I wish you didn't have to fight but you got drafted. Just know that there is a bunch of us behind you. ((hugs)) :grope:

dicksbro 06-24-2009 05:04 AM

Thanks Lilith. For the kind wishes :) and the warning that you'd be behind me. :yikes:

It's gonna' go great!

Hugs to you! :x:

jseal 06-24-2009 06:22 AM

dicksbro,

Best wishes, sir. We are pulling for your success!

dicksbro 06-24-2009 05:25 PM

Had my first chemo treatment and I'm feeling great. Good enough that I'm going to a meeting with another guy in Princeville about an hour's drive from here. Wives are going, too, so we might have a bite to eat after the meeting! I'm wearing a "fanny pack" with a pump that circulate medicine in me and will do so til' Friday when it'll be removed. Next treatment, July 8th when I'll repeat today's process.

So far, so good and no ill effects. They gave us prescription "just in case" I started feeling a bit queezy or suffer from a little runniness in the stool. But that's just a precaution.

Keep up the good wishes, they're working!

(And may God bless you for you caring!! Please also, don't forget DM383, PF's son or Lixy's sister. All still need prayers and good wishes. Fact is, toss in a general prayer for us all ... I think everyone can use help with something :) )

dicksbro 06-24-2009 08:38 PM

Three hours later ... no problems. I feel great.

Well, okay, one tiny little problem. They'd warned me not to eat ice because the reaction of tissue to cold is to close up some ... and that includes the throat. When I got dinner I got a diet soda and it had crushed ice in the glass. I took a little drink, and, oops, I felt the throat close up making it hard to swallow. Soon as the ice melted, it was okay. After that, I "filtered" out the ice and held the soda to let it warm a bit before swallowing. That worked! :)

Probably would have me, too, except the piece of ice was so small and melted so fast that it served more as a reminder than as a danger. (Thank heavens!)

PantyFanatic 06-25-2009 11:09 AM

I'm so glad to hear the chemo is going well. That has come a long way in it's effectiveness in the last decade. I hope you have now had the worst of the side effects. I can't wait to see you next month with a head of hair like mine. We will be able to put our heads together and make an ass of ourselves. ;)

(side note)
I hope these last nine weeks have been shorter for you than for me although they are beginning to take shape of earth-time now. Son is do FANTASTIC considering his condition then. The doctors are as impressed as we are. He has been doing therapy locally, three time each week and making better than normal progress. Last Friday he had to go back down to Columbus, to the trauma center where he was treated, for an evaluation by them. They told him if things progress as they have, he may be able to return to work by October. "You may be able to chase the bad guy down, but you won't be able to tackle him yet." :D That was great news for everyone.

I don't pray; it's against my religion.

Peole have my general, very carefully-applied well wishes, though.

Fro me, too!

:jacques:

My chemo has comprised of 3 different types of noxious liquid pumped through my veins, the main one of which was for 5 full days and just finished at 7p.m. tonight. (It's 10:30p.m. now, if it helps!) Unfortunately, that meant I had to stay in the hospital the whole time, as I had to receive anti-sickness and antibiotic meds as well.

On the plus side; the lump in my neck has definitely shrunk, quite noticeably. I don't know if it's particularly significant treatment-wise, but boy it makes me feel better! Now a 2-week "rest" then back in for another week.

Tell you what, though - it's the first time I've been away from H and the dogs for more than 1 night at a time - and I HATED it!

DB - thanks for letting me use your thread. God speed (to all you mentioned, and more) and more updates ASAP please!! ;)

Good to hear from you. Been worried about ya! Being away from home for treatment must be awful. ((hugs)) Glad you are on the week off. Keep visualizing that little bastard shrinking!

Dicksbro and DM

Just stopping by to wish you all the best in fighting this.

My thoughts are with you both and if strength can be past through clouds, just look into the sky on a cloudy day and know that's the little bit of strength I've sent to you.

Keep fighting, keep smiling, keep loving :x:

AZRedHot 07-05-2009 03:33 PM

Prayers and healing energy coming your way from AZ.

Hugs.

dicksbro 07-05-2009 04:31 PM

More thanks to FWM and AZRedHot! So far so good with no really negatives from the first chemo treatment. Will get the next dose this coming Wednesday.

dm383 07-06-2009 03:34 AM

Likewise, appreciation+++ from me too.

Always nice to get hugs from sexy ladies..... DB, there might be something to get out of this after all!!! ;)

gekkogecko 07-06-2009 09:41 AM

I wouldn't recommend it as a way to get laid. There are far better paths to sex.

AngelicVampires 07-06-2009 10:42 AM

Just wanted to let you all know that I am thinking of you. **hugs and kisses**

dicksbro 07-09-2009 02:43 AM

More thanks for the good wishes.

Had the 2nd chemo treatment (two down, ten to go) yesterday and again had the fanny pack attached for additional medications. Got home last night around nine (after a meeting) and the pack started beeping (meaning something isn't working). Opened the pack and saw the cover for the battery was off and it looked like contact wasn't being made. Checked and cover had fallen off. Evidently the "catch" to keep it on is broken because it simply won't stay on. Taped it on and for a little bit, I thought we had it working. Nope, started beeping again. Called the "emergency number" ... got our doc ... he said take the battery out and go back out there this morning. :( Another 50 mile round trip. Then, I'll have to go back out there again on Friday to have the pack removed when it runs out of medicine. :(

I feel good other than being perturbed by all this ridiculous driving. No idea when the clinics associates won't let me go to Pekin or Eureka where they have clinics and that would reduce the travel to 20 miles per trip.

gekkogecko 07-09-2009 10:00 AM

Perhaps, instead of taping down the battery cover, you should duct-tape the clinic personnel to their desks.

dm383 07-10-2009 02:18 AM

All sounds like a major PITA DB. And here was me thinking you all had good-quality medical gear in the States cos you pay for it!!
All that driving doesn't sound good, though, especially if you start to get the tiredness I've had - last thing in the world you'll feel like doing is driving, especially for such (relatively) long distances. Incidentally, does Mrs DB drive?

She does and that's great to have her along. So far, I haven't had a problem as evidenced by my driving up to Michigan and back for our get together. So far, my really tired day is the Sunday after chemo. The first two Sundays were "take lots of naps days." :)

Not all bad. Kept a drink handy, and the TV remote in arms reach. :)

Stil got to church and even do some running, but, Sunday is definitely nap day so far.

Thank you, much! This coming Wednesday will be my fourth chemo treatment. That'll make me a third the way done. :) So far so good in terms of side effects. Hair might be thinning a bit, but still doesn't really show. And, the tingling I get from touching things cold (ice cubes or glasses filled with ice) are, at most, minor inconveniences.

All things considered, I think of myself as very, very lucky.

CuteCoupleOz 08-02-2009 01:51 AM

Oh DB, I do hope it continues to go good for you. Maybe that's not a the right choice of words. I just hope it all goes the right way!

Salacious 08-19-2009 10:48 PM

Sending you my well wishes too DB. Love and hugs

dicksbro 08-20-2009 02:29 AM

Five treatments down ... seven to go ... and still, the side effects seem minor.

You're almost halfway there!

lizzardbits 08-20-2009 11:14 AM

Ya know Dear DB, I have to say that for someone undergoing treatments, you certainly do not look it. Mayhem and I marveled over the fact that after seeing his Mum, and my Dad go through treatments and seeing how it affected them, and then joyfully meeting you and the gorgeous Mrs., well, quite frankly, that we plain forgot that you're fightin the big "C". Your smile is infectious, and it spreads like wildfire :) We love ya, and are praying for ya!

dicksbro 08-21-2009 04:24 AM

Thank you LB. I'm not going to let this little inconvenience stop me ... too many things to do; too many places to go; and, I figure either the Man Upstairs is going to take care of me (along with the doctors) or, He'll call me home to heaven and I wouldn't turn down that invitation, either. Either way ... it's a win-win situation ... and, based on "so far," I think the healing is going to win out! ;)

Mrs. and I loved meeting you guys. What a terrific couple ... just like all the Pixes we've been privileged to meet!

Teddy Bear 09-04-2009 04:20 AM

((((((DB))))))

Sending prayers and healing thoughts to you!

Glad to hear all is progressing as well as it is.

The ice cube thing was was weird. I had never heard of that. Good they warned you about it.

dicksbro 09-05-2009 03:17 AM

Thanks TB! I really do believe the prayers and good wishes help a great deal. Don't know what I'd do without them.

Anyway, half way done now. Six down and six to go.
