2013 Playoffs

So, the Capitals have cinched the last ever Southeast Division title with last night's win over Winnipeg. (Yes, Winnipeg, a city in Manitoba, Canada is in the Southeast Division. And yes, the National Hockey League's divisions are generally geographical. It makes sense, honestly. Has to do with the history of the NHL). It still leaves one to wonder if they: a) would have done this without the stupid lockout crap on the part of the NHL owners, and consequently shortened season; and b) if the Caps are going to end up choking in the playoffs, as usual.

:hockey:

Neige 04-27-2013 11:33 PM

You know who I'm rooting for ;)

gekkogecko 04-28-2013 10:25 AM

Yeah, but we'll have to see what the outcome of today's Boston-Ottawa makeup game is before we find out who the Habs play first.

gekkogecko 04-28-2013 08:56 PM

Ottawa 4, Boston 2 (on an empty-net goal by Ottawa).

So, Ottawa (7) gets Montreal (2) in the first round, Pittsburgh (1) gets the NY Islanders (8), Washington (3) gets the NY Rangers (6), and Boston (4) faces Toronto (5)..

gekkogecko 04-28-2013 08:59 PM

Oh, and in the "other" conference it's Chicago (1, and best record int he NHL this season) vs Minnesota (8), Anaheim (2) & Detroit (7), Vancouver (3) against San Jose (6) and St. Louis (4) facing Los Angeles (5).

gekkogecko 05-03-2013 08:38 AM

Yes! Caps take game 1, 3-1 over the rangers.

Sorry Neige, Ottawa over Montreal, 4-2 for game 1. Further (excerpt from press release): The NHL has scheduled a disciplinary hearing for Ottawa Senators defenseman Eric Gryba on Friday for his hit on Lars Eller of the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series. The following grounds for potential supplemental discipline are being considered: Illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to these infractions accordingly upon further review.
Gryba was assessed a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct on the play.

Neige 05-03-2013 10:44 PM

3-1 Montreal tonight though, and that's with 3 major players absent!!!

Scarecrow 05-04-2013 04:31 PM

Go Blue's

gekkogecko 05-05-2013 10:10 AM

Well, Scarecrow, they do have LA up by a game still, despite yesterday's loss.

But Mike Green's goal in OT...perfect set up, perfect shot. Hockey doesn't get any better.

And Neige gets more Canuck-on-Canuck action tonight.

Oldfart 05-05-2013 05:25 PM

Lucky Neige.

gekkogecko 05-05-2013 09:27 PM

Holy crap, that Ottawa-Montreal game.

Montreal alone had 129 penalty minutes-more than double the nominal playing time.

Between them, the two teams had something like 13 different penalties called during the first two periods.

And FORTY during the third.

gekkogecko 05-08-2013 09:20 PM

In the East:
Rangers took game 4 byt eh same score they took game 3, so the series is tied at 2 games each. Penguins & Islanders are also tied at 2 games. Ottawa has Montreal by the neck, 3 games to 1. And Boston is up two games to 1 against the Maple leafs, with the fourth game of that series going into overtime at the moment, tied at 3.

gekkogecko 05-08-2013 09:24 PM

And in the West:
My former favorite team, the Chicago Blackhawks are all over the Minnesota Wild, 3 games to 1, Detroit and Anaheim are tied at 2 games each, as are Los Angeles & ST Louis: both of these series have game 5 tonight.

And the only round 1 series that has been decided is the San Jose/Vancouver, : San Jose swept Vancouver off the ice.

gekkogecko 05-14-2013 10:40 AM

Well, that answers that question.

Choke, big-time, in game 7, as usual.

And as Neige will no doubt bitch about, the Canadiens are also out of the playoffs.

Ah, well, I can go back to my second favorites, the Chicago Blackhawks.

Lord Snow 05-14-2013 05:07 PM

GG, at least your teams still exist. I found out the Hartford Whalers are no more, and haven't been for a few years now. Makes me sad.

Anglosaxon 05-15-2013 01:33 PM

They have the former Wolfpack, now Connecticut Whale (the AHL affiliate of the Rangers)...but it's not the same. Ya can't go back. I was never a super fan, but I did follow them and it was a sad day when they moved down to NC.

No, in fact they turned into the Carolina Hurricanes back in 1997, or thereabouts. Carolina missed the playoffs this year.

gekkogecko 06-02-2013 02:33 PM

And the good guys won last night:

Chicago 2, San Jose 1;

Boston 3, Pittsburgh 0.

gekkogecko 06-06-2013 09:12 AM

Annnnnnd last night's game lasted into this morning: Boston 2, Pittsburgh 1, in the second overtime, which took the game until after midnight to finish.

Boston now leads the series 3 games to none; Chicago has a two games to one lead over Los Angeles, and they have game four tonight.

gekkogecko 06-08-2013 09:56 AM

WhooHooo!

Boston has swept Pittsburgh from the playoffs. Last night's game was brutal, though.

Now, if Chicago can oust Los Angeles tonight, things will be set for the finals.

Go, 'Hawks!

gekkogecko 06-09-2013 10:19 AM

And Chicago ousts Los Angeles in overtime, 4-3.

Game 1of the finals is set for Wednesday.

Go 'Hawks!

PantyFanatic 06-09-2013 12:00 PM

It goes from 3-2 into two periods of OT at the last 9 seconds. :roflmao:

Winston77 06-16-2013 12:12 PM

Bruins rule

gekkogecko 06-17-2013 06:55 PM

Nah, the series is tied at one game apiece.

gekkogecko 06-20-2013 12:40 PM

Wild-ass game last night. 6-5 in overtime, and these are two fo the best defensive teams int he league. SEries tied at 2 games each.

Go 'Hawks!

gekkogecko 06-25-2013 11:13 AM

A critical seventeen seconds in the third period saw the Chicago Blackhawks go from a 2-1 deficit to a 3-2 lead.

And the Blackhawks are the new Stanley Cup champions.

(congratulatory head bobs)
