Forgotten?????
So a guy gets into a little arguement with a "family member", works way too many hours with little to no sleep, and sudden he is forgotten by all his favorite people. Wow, wonder what happen if I just disappeared for a week or two? Would anyone really notice or chalk it up to something else?
Just curious is all????? |
Depends on who it is??
If it was me it would take quite a while (if anyone noticed at all)
but if it was Lilith or mindboxer (only examples) people would notice straight away! There are a few people who are on here quite a lot and they all know each other very well. That prob sounds like i am being silly but i do want to say that i have been made to feel really welcome and hope i will get to know people here like the others do now!:) Im stilll finding my feet a bit. |
I would have to agree with danziggy on this there are certin people who would be missed faster than others sfc, lilith oldfart, diva, etc. right now they are the heart of the forum while the ocasional poster just fades into the background
|
Speaking for myself.(naturally)You get to know how different people think by relating their replys to their"handles."If someone
(regular)is abscent for a few weeks;I just figure that they have something in "real life"to take care of.If they are gone for a while; they are asked about! Many things important;come up;that demand immediate attention. For myself;pixies is a pleasure that can't always be taken advantage of immediately. Irish P.S.I have things come up;periodically;that don't really concern Pixies members! |
OldFart took a couple of days off, &it was noticed right away... other less frequent posters may not be noticed for some time... so yes, it would depend on who it is...
|
Just to help peoples privacy out;here is what I do.It might be benificial to some.I send LoveDiva4u a PM or e-mail.She is the moderator and might know about the person in question. That way;you're not putting undue pressure on the person in question.
Just a suggestion! Irish |
Prophet, hun, forgotten??? Hardly! You're one of the reasons this place is so memorable... and so addictive... :o
To me, Pixies' is a lot like one of my family's big birthday dinners --- there's tons of people around, the whole extended family is there plus lots of friends who don't know all of us quite as well but are joining the party anyway. Everyone's kind of milling about because we can't all sit down at the same time since there's not enough chairs, and people keep drifting back and forth to the kitchen or out to walk one of the dogs or to join in a pick-up hockey game or jam session... We notice when someone's not there, but it's not immediately cause for concern --- everyone comes back to the table enventually, when my grandmother's famous chocolate cake comes out --- and we just figure that the person has eaten enough and wandered off to do something else for a bit. It's only if the person stays away for so long that they miss an entire course of the meal or don't show up to open their presents that we get really anxious. *calling* Hey Prophet --- where'd you go? We're lighting the candles on the cake, c'mon back in for dessert! --- sweetstuff |
P.R.---You can have S.F.C.s chair. She won't be needing it because
she's not supposed to be eating chocolate cake anyway! Irish |
LMAO @ Irish! Good one! :D
(I was kinda hoping no one would catch that one so I could cheat and have some cake, but you've foiled my plans... ) |
I certainly didn't forget You. I've noticed You haven't been on my buddy list much lately. (But, then again, most all of yesterday I didn't have a buddy list and AOL was royally fucked up for me.) I know I wouldn't be noticed or missed here if gone, just like many other places...
|
Prophet! I did miss you! And I noticed you haven't been online much too. Actually, you were one of the reasons I joined up and started posting (and pics as well ;) )
Guess sometimes, in a family, you tend to take each other for granted, that they will be around or just wandered off. We shouldn't have though........ |
If i think i'm going to be away for any length of time....i usually drop a PM or Email to other Regs
I don't like to cause anyone worry.... |
meh, i got no delusions about my standing. i'm just some odd fella who makes inappropriate, less-than-memorable posts every once in a while. and that's swank with me. everybody needs a position on the team. put it in, coach. i'm ready.
|
PR~ I just hoped you were off licking me;)....oh! I mean your wounds or busy or something like that... and knew you would return when you felt that you could stay away no longer........ Of course you were missed.......
|
I just don't go away.....I get withdrawal symptoms :p
|
I was away for a bit...tending to my "other life" away from pixies. But you know there's always a warm welcome when you return :)
|
Does anyone miss me?
Does anyone really know what time it is? Does any body really care? |
There aren't "more important" or "less important" members.
Some of us have higher profiles or posting counts, but each member is as important as the others. If I thought there was any cliquy pecking order then this would not be the place for me. Sometimes outer life intrudes on the forum. Kim, is it worth arranging an "on holiday" status in our profile? |
thats a good idea old fart.
|
Speaking of MIA~ Is it just me, or has Nubian been absent lately? Always miss his sense of humor when he is not about........
|
Lilith---You're right;it's not like Nubian not to respond to this type
of a thread! OldFart---I agree with everything that you said.Much as I hate to admit it---I couldn't have said it better myself! Irish P.S.I don't think that Nubian would leave;without telling people. |
Quote:
That would be a great idea if members would remember to use it. I hope you sent her a request for it... ;) Now..Prophet you weren't missed by me..cause I wasn't here to miss ya hun...:D :p...I was away myself since this thread got posted. But it bothers me when members vanish....without a word or a trace.....:( Does a "gone on vacation thread" sound like a good idea if Kim can't make a status on our profile?? |
I vote"Yes." Irish
|
me too. a yes from me!!
|
i think it's a great idea.
|
since i do intend to take a vacation in june i vote yes..it would be great to know that if someone is gone for a while that they aren't ignoring you if you happen to send them a pmessage....just gone for a bit.........so sounds groovy to me...
|
Idea.
"On Vacation" thread sounds good. Can we kill the post when we come back by editing? If not, Diva can, I think. Sorry Diva, another chore maybe. |
An "On Vacation" thread is a great solution, if we can't have some kind of status change in the profile. I think OF's suggestion is fantastic as well --- the thread would get cluttered & confusing if we all post our comings & goings continually, and you'd have to read backwards pretty carefully to figure out who was still gone & who was back... Deleting the "I'm gone" posts would keep everything much clearer. Good thinking, Diva & OF!
--- sweetstuff p.s. Yeah, I was wondering about Nubian myself... Hope all's well with him! And Diva, we missed you --- glad you're back! |
Glad to know that I am missed. Thanks Xanne, SFC, and Lillith, brought smiles to my faces. And Diva I think that your idea would work. Either one.
And to officially let everyone know, I will be gone for about a week. Going done to FL to visit some friends and get some training from my company. I will try to get online and let everyone know how life is at Spring Break Central. |
PR~ are you driving or flying? If you drive you may pass right by my house...... wouldn't yu be needed a rest stop by then?
|
I am flying my dear Lilith, but as I pass over your lands I will think foundly of your offer. After all, this bag boy still is waiting for the rest of his tip.
|
and I await your tip as well!;)
|
Your're quite right Irish. I've formed too many friendships here to just up and disappear without saying goodbye. I've unexpectedly been away on business and am only now catching up. It's good to be back and thanks all for all the lovely inquiries, PMs and emails, during my absence.
By the way, I love the idea of the vacation thread. Quote:
|
Well Liltih did you catch my vibes as I crossed your lands. I hope so. Well I am back and glad to be home too. Now I just need to get caught up on here and all is good. Glad to see that nubian is back too, along with a few otheres too. And Lilith, I will deliver my tip when you deliver yours. :D
|
PR~ so glad you are safe and sound....... for a brief moment I had an incredibly, delicious, sexy feeling and knew you must be near;).....
|
Just an idea for you guys! When my wife is on vacation;we take
alot of day-trips.That way we can take our dog with us.I have never boarded him and don't intend to!We have had him for over 10yrs. and he is as much a part of our family as one of our kids. Plus you save the cost of staying someplace;and you have access to your computer at night.I know that this is not practical for everyone but you also have the benifit of staying in your own bed. Irish P.S. Besides;I am a thrifty(cheap)person and the money saved can benifit our autistic grandson!(special diet, research trips, etc.) At my age;you realise that there are more important things;than building something that goes fast. |
LMAO Picture this folks: Irish, his wife AND his dog crusing down the highway on his Harley! :D
PS Glad you are back Nubian:) BTW the vacation thread could also serve to share our "vacation adventures". |
luv2please---For your information;I have never owned and never
intend to own a Harley.I have had enough of them apart to know what they are like;inside of the engine. They may look and sound cool but they are built too sloppily for me to own.I specialise and own;chopped;Triumphs with many Harley accessories. When looked at;they are often mistaken(looks)for Harleys.I don't want to piss off the "die hard"Harley people;but I'm speaking as a mechanic;who has owned two motorcycle shops;in different towns. Irish P.S.Different strokes for different folks. |
Irish,
Harley, Triumph whatever, I still think its a funny scene.:D |
luv2please---I also have a '98 Jeep Cherokee and a '99 Pontiac
GrandAm GT V6-RamAir.When we take the dog;I usually take one of them. When we take the dog on the bike;he always;leans the wrong way or puts his foot down on the corners. It screws me all up.Seriously;when I got hit the last time(they pronounced me dead at Frisbee Hospital,Rochester,N.H.);I took the passenger pegs off my bike.I love to ride but I am a realist. There is no protection on one.My Grandkids don't need both of their grandparents;dead or crippled.I have had 6-7 bad accidents in the last 10yrs.;but have never had a chargeable accident!
