[] You Got to Know When to Fold Em []

Any gamblers out there? I have never played more than slots. I intend to lose my shirt in Vegas (my panties too, if I do it right;)).

What do you play? Any tips? Any guidelines or rules that you follow?

IAKaraokeGirl 05-24-2004 08:49 AM

<----just goes into the casino, $20 in hand, and heads to the $1 blackjack tables to see how long it can last. :D

P.S. Play at the small casinos, Lil--not the big ones!

Nice Guy 05-24-2004 09:28 AM

Well if you plan on losing it all, I can only say this. Play it big and play it often. The it is whatever catches your fancy.

I myself am partical to craps, but it can be a bear to learn. It is fun to learn and watch, plus it has higher returns on certain bets then most anything in a casino.

Roulette is another high stakes game. Good way to eat through your cash. Don't know much about it, I like to stay away from it.

Blackjack, best odds in any casino and if you can count cards your odds just got a whole lot better.

Poker 'nuff said. I hope.

Those are the most popular. Also remember that there are tables with different minimum bets, just look around for a table with a price you like.

Dear Lilith,

When you win a bit. Cash it in and put it aside until that amount equals the amount you began with. Anything you win after that is truely extra, play money. Should you drop down to zero, you still have what you started with. No gain, no loss.
Remember, gambling is not a safe form of retirement planning. When gambling, I remember that I am buying the feeling, the fantasy of hitting the big one. That is the pay off.

I have never played. I went to a casino about a year ago with my husband and his twin brothers. I watch as they blew through money. They won for awhile at the beginning and then lost! My husband gave me $5 to play the nickel slots with and instead I just kept the $5. When we left they were all broke but me. ;)

Lil,

If you go for the 50/50 bets on the roulette wheel, red or black,

high or low, then you won't win a fortume, but you have a chance

of spinning out the loss. You may even finish ahead.

If you do finish ahead, take what you are ahead by and bet it on a

single number. Take the win or loss and go.

I'm not much of a gambler.I usually play the slot machines or once in a while Roulette.

I used to have a weekly poker game when I was on a project in Indianapolis. I even bought a poker table topper so that we could look official. I love playing poker. I'm too scared to do it at a casino, though. Too many people really know how to play there. Not like my drunk friends. lol

When at a casino, I enjoy playing craps. My favorite, though, is Pai Gow Poker. You actually have to think to play it. Just something I enjoy.

We have a casino right smack in our town. I've never been to any other's, but I'd say it's fairly big. We've only gone maybe 5 times ever, and we stick to the old building, which is only slots.

Hit the nickle slots with $5, and quit when you're ready, sometimes with more cash, sometimes less. Never bring a purse in, lock it in the trunk. Leave credit cards and checks at home, and keep cash in the purse minimal, and you'll be less likely to lose anything big.

Unless you're going with the intention of winning big, then doing like I said above is a much more fun way of betting. Have a cash limit that you'll spend, and stick to it. A time limit is good, as well, because if you arn't paying attention, you can really lose time there.

One time when we went, an old lady was sitting next to my slot, and had been the entire time I was there. She looked over at me oddly, and asked what day it was. I thought she asked the time, so I told her (it was about 7pm-ish) and she shook her head and asked what day it was, again, and if it was AM or PM outside.

There's usually no windows, and no clocks to know the time.

hubby and i went to vegas once, on our honeymoon. we were passing through, it was lunch time, so we stayed to eat, gamble and sleep. ok, ok, you caught me, we dind't sleep much, we did screw alot, though:hot: can you blame us? it was the first bed we were in in weeks. (the trip was a cross country camping trip, we hit all the major parks). we both took 20$ and lost it in less then an hour. i played the quarter and nickle slots, they were LOTS of fun. he played blackjack at a 5$ table and came over to help me lose the rest of my money :p. then we just walked around. it's a hell of a city, loads of fun, lots to do even if you don't spend a dime!!

i hope you have a great time winning money and loosing your panties. ;) either way its bound to be fun. i don't know if this is a tip or not but apparently they will bring you drinks on the gambling floor for free if you're playing. we spent a few bucks on cokes before we figured that one out!

have fun, lilith!!!!

The wheel is not too difficult to get quickly and it is fun. Try craps too. It takes a little more thought but they will help you to understand. Just ask.

As far as guidelines, I'm with Larry all the way.

LarryL- ˇKWhen gambling, I remember that I am buying the feeling, the fantasy of hitting the big one. That is the pay off.

I go with the understanding that they are in business because they take in a lot more money than they pay out. I'm paying for the excitement and fun of it. It's an entertainment fee just like paying $100 for tickets to a concert.

I agree with NiceGuy about craps being the fastest, most exciting game in any casino, and has the best odd of any game if you don't bet stupid. There are a lot of bets that you have to pay a "surcharge¨ to place the bet because the odds are so slim for the house.

The game itself is the simplest and most uniform game on the planet, in an alley or Grand Casino- Monte Carlo. The few rules and procedure is ALWAYS the same.
The manner in which you make your bet is all that can vary. In "alley craps¨ each of the players are betting among themselves. With "casino craps¨ every player is betting against the house. They have every conceivable bet available on every roll. That is the only place that can become complicated. You'll find most stickmen very polite and helpful with honest information. But you don't want to go to a crap table without experience or having done some homework. (I know you can handle that.;) )

My one personal rule is that there is no "THEIR MONEY¨! You are NEVER playing with their money. If you think there is, try reaching over for just one chip from the house bank and they WILL clarify who's money is who's!;) Every nickel you win is YOURS. Every nickel you lose WAS YOURS! To say you lost $25 if you brought $50, won $100, then lost $125 and left with $25 is WRONG. You LOST $125! It was YOURS.

Have fun and call me before you bet your panties. :lust:

DO NOT PLAY THE SLOTS!!!!!!

You're money will go away very fast. As for where to play, I prefer the bigger casinos. They serve more premium liquer and the waitresses move a little faster (and are hotter) for you than at the dives.

Oh and ask for help from the dealer and other players, they will be glad to give you help rather than have you screw up their hands.

i love the crap table......blackjack a close second

LixyChick 05-25-2004 05:01 AM

I live close enough to Atlantic City to gamble every weekend if I wanted to. What keeps me from doing it? Well...I just look at Donald Trump's hair (on TV) and think to myself, "Look what being around casino's can do to a person"!!! *giggle*

Years ago, to satisfy my curiousity, I went to the casino's. It was back when there was The Playboy Casino and The Golden Nugget. I'm a people watcher so I didn't play much, but my boyfriend (at the time) sat down at a blackjack table where the most beautiful "bunny" was a dealer. In a matter of 5 minutes he lost $50. But he left with a smile on her face. Cleavage has that effect on some men!

We went over to The Golden Nugget and he gambled somemore while I roamed around. I went by the Baccarrat tables to get a peek at the high rollers. Closest I've ever been to a gazillionaire in my life! Anyway...for some reason I looked up at one point and noticed the chandeliers! They had little gold devils with pitchforks in theirs hands on each tier of the gawdy lights! I giggled!

And that's my experience with gambling! Hope it helped (make you smile) Lil! And...I wish you luck and hope you have fun, fun, fun!
