Yes. Although he was paralyzed nine years ago after being thrown from a horse, he appeared in a 1998 production of Rear Window, a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock thriller about a man in a wheelchair who becomes convinced that a neighbor has been murdered.

Quite a guy.

So sad!

Grumble 10-11-2004 07:18 AM

superman showed plenty of courage in the face of adversity.

A man that I admire and will remember

jennaflower 10-11-2004 07:25 AM

so very sad.... a loss of a great human being...

musicman 10-11-2004 08:52 AM

a great advocate and an even better person -he will be missed

Pita 10-11-2004 09:48 AM

They said he lived two years longer then the avarage person with a spinal cord injury.

He was so freaky hot in Superman with that hair and peircing blue eyes.

He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are for his wife Dana and their childern.

The first thing I noticed about the actors who played Superman over the years was the common last name.In the 50's it was George Reeves. In the 70's and 80's it was Christopher Reeve.I think the actor who played the man of steel in the 30's serials had a similar name too. We were all pulling for him to walk again, who knows maybe with proper funding of stem cell research it would have been possible. My favourite movie with him was Somewhere in Time with Jayne Seymour.I never saw the remake of Rear Window. So sad he will be missed.

I too love Somewhere In Time. In fact, I've got it sitting right here on my desk... my daughter gave me a copy about 3 weeks ago because she saw it on sale and remembered how much I love it. It always makes me cry.

Not a Superman fan, but I was amazed at his stamina, motivation, and caring. I'm sorry he's gone, but glad he can once again move freely.

What a kind, compassionate and gentle man he was. He was a gifted advocate and an inspiration. I was saddened to hear the news.

Lilith 10-11-2004 01:53 PM

What stunned me was that with the fabulous care he was getting, form what I have read he died after having been hospitalized for a sytemic infection from a presssure wound which I take to mean, a bed sore.

Christopher Reeve was more than just Superman...what he did to raise the profile of spinal cord research can't be overstated. But I heard this song again for the first time in years, and honest to god....I think it's a fitting tribute, to all his many roles in this life.

Superman's Song (Crash Test Dummies)

Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no
Junglescape, dumb as an ape doing nothing

Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank
In the United States, he had the strength, but he would now
Folks said his family were all dead
Their planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself
To carry on, forget Krypton, and keep going

Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: "I Tarzan, You Jane."

Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back
On man, join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city, and kept on changing clothes
In dirty old phonebooths till his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home

Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

May this man rest knowing that he made a lot of people very happy

I loved this quote:
"Look, I've flown, I've become evil, loved, stopped and turned the world backward, I've faced my peers, I've befriended children and small animals and I've rescued cats from trees," Reeve told the Los Angeles Times in 1983, just before the release of the third "Superman" movie. "What else is there left for Superman to do that hasn't been done?"
