The Key to Relationships

Ok, at the risk of ruining my reputation I will post this.

This was told to me by my 81 year old grandmother this weekend, she wanted to impart on how to make every relationship/marriage last.

She said it was really very simple. All you have to do is kiss him on the lips everymorning before he or you leaves for work. Take a minute drop your rushing, step away from the kids and just a peck on the lips. She swears that every morning for 53 years of marriage, even when they were sleeping in different rooms in later years, one kiss a day.

She is smarter than I, so i listen to her.

We kiss each other first thing in the morning and last thing before we drift off at night. And as much little pecks and I love you's during the day.

My grandmother told me the same thing years ago...and she was married 55 years before my grandpa passed away!

Always listen to your elders.....they know!! ;) :D

I think grandmas know what they are talking about. :p

Thanks Skip.......

I think you might be right. For the first years of my marriage I kissed my wife and told her I loved her before I went to sleep every night. However, I realized that she never returned or initiated the kiss. So I stopped. Ever since then things have went downhill. So at the beginning of 2003 I started again and lo and behold she is responding positively. Maybe my wife got used to it and when I stopped she figured I stopped loving her. Well, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Grandmas ARE smart cookies... I think she's on to something :D

It's stuff like this that just makes you smile because you know it's right :)

Grandma's often do seem to have a very special kind of wisdom. STO, I think yours was right on target. Give her a hug and kiss for all of us! :)

so true! my gran and grampa were married for 61 yrs----lost them both last year----but their wisdom and love lives on---grannie also told me "You have to kiss a lot of toads before you find your prince!" (xxxxxx sweetie!)

skip!!!!!!!!!!!

I love your grandmother already!

OK.......True Confessions!

Growing up, my mother never put any of her 5 children to bed without a "Goodnight, I love you....say your prayers!" She said.......(and yes I agree this could be a morbid thought if you didn't know mom)........."I want you to know I love you if anything should happen to you or I before we wake!"

To this day.........Anyone I do love......(heart and soul)........hears "I love you" from me everytime we part.......even if it's just to the local store!

HEY! Ya never know! They could start up a bus service around this damn foresaken place and I could get hit by one at anytime!

Sometimes i get a little sappy lol, sending him cards,e-mails things like that.I do throw the "L" word in there on occasion too.He knows it lol ,i don't think i let him forget:):) I think its important weather its said with words, cards ,a look or a touch just let it be known..cuz you never know what you've got till its gone..Yes thats sappy but all to true.

I think I gonna cry....This is the sweetest post. I found so much of myself in all the previous posts before me. I am the same way with Hugs :) I love hugs!!!!!! It's so true little things can mean so much more and it doesn't take much energy to do them. Like BiBabe said "You never know what you got until it's gone"

My Gramps and Gram were married 51 years...boy how I miss them..

Sharni 01-14-2003 08:41 PM

Hmmmm...Bilbo and i have been together for yonks....and we don't kiss each other everyday...in fact we don't kiss that much at all...

I say them 3 magic words though...fairly often...the reply i get to my statement:

"Do you...thats good" Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fluffy inside *LOL*

LixyChick 01-14-2003 09:26 PM

LOL Shar!!!!!!!

*and you too Bilbo*

Believe it or not......THAT'S IT!

So very sweet........that it's understood!

LixyChick 01-14-2003 09:32 PM

Just one more thing.............cause I am feeling rather sappy now.......TYVM skip!

When I get home from work..........just because I have said it for eons........I asked hubby, "Did you miss me all day?" He says, "Of course I did, I told everyone I did and they said.........shaddup about that now and blow this mother fucker up!"

Gotta love that man!

Sadly....

in our society... I think that the "key" is often misplaced, discarded, and virtually ignored... guess that is why the divorce rate is what it is... and why so many are alone.........................
