Pest Help!

I hope this helps someone!Last year,we got our driveway&
surrounding areas paved. This is a BIG deal, because my driveway
itself is about 150'+ back from the road.I have lived in the same
place for over 20yrs.& my wife has always wanted to get it done.
Last year,a former coworker&old riding buddy bought an established paving business.I knew that he had the same work ethic as me.Either do it right or don't do it.I called him.He measured my drive, parking area, walkway, etc. He graded the whole thing&gave me a multi-thousand price.Something kept
digging holes next to my garage.(Thru the pavement)He sent his
crew over & repaired the holes.I have to be carefull what I use,
because my wife has a cat.I bought a small Hav-a-hart trap at
Home Depot.NOTHING!My wife checked on the computor,
yesterday,And came up with something that sounded stupid to
me.They said to take a 5Gal.pail,fill it 3/4 with water,make a ramp,
leading to the rim.Put sunflower seeds,up the ramp, and on top of
the water.The chipmunks(red squirrels)would fall in & drown.
Sound cruel&stupid?Did it last night.Today,Voila.Plus,it doesn't
affect the cat. Irish

Whatever works :)
I don't have a squirrel problem but the moles are killing my yard :(

Irish, you can use that method for mice as well. We set up a pail in the winter at the cottage, but we fill it with anti-freeze.(water freezes and the mice skate all winter) We catch alot of mice that way! Good luck with the squirrel problem!

I guess you’ll have to bury the bucket and ramp.

Seriously,every year,when the snow melts,there are mole furrows,all over my&the neighbors yards,from moles.If you don't
flatten them down,it ruins your lawnmower blades(dulls)I don't
know what can be done.My cat got one,but you can't depend on
that. You might try a site on the computer! Irish
P.S.Don't pay any attention to that"smartass"PF!

I have read if you stick matches in the mole run they will eat the sulpher from the match head and die from it. Don't know if it works or not but might be worth a try

Irish 05-20-2003 01:45 PM

BarDog---I have read that if you stick a match up thier ASS&
light it,that they won't come back!Sorry!Thanks!Couldn't resist

I could see where that would work! Might be fun to try! I also remembered that moth balls are supposed to eather kill them or run them off if you drop them in the run.

I was also told that peeing in the mole hole would help but I can't seem to get up the nerve to pee in the yard LMAO

Moles? Forget cats, they might catch and kill the occasional mole; matches don't put out anywhere near enough fumes to smoke them out, (and if they did, you'd be in serious danger of starting a brush fire, so don't try something bigger); pouring gasolene down the holes isn't environmentally sound.

If you live in an area where rats snakes are common (there are many different kinds of rat snakes), try to live capture a wild rat snake and let it go in your yard. While a cat might catch the occasional mole, snakes are literally built for gettign into the mole tunnels and wiping out entire nests of noxious rodents.

Go Reptiles! Eat Mammals!

gekkogecko---Thanks, but for some reason, snakes scare the
shit out of me.I keep a machete in my shed & even chop up
the non-poisonous ones,when I see them.I know it isn't right
but I have never liked spiders or snakes.When I was a kid,I
used to inspect, all of the upper corners of my bedroom, before
going to bed!
BarDog---I hate the screams from the moths, when you cut
their balls off! They're,also, hard to catch!
Scarlett---One of the good things about living in NH & having over
an acre of land.I piss outside, all of the time. You don't have to listen to your mate about flushing. If your neighbors don't like it,
they don't have to look! Irish

Scarlett 05-20-2003 07:46 PM

Irish, we have 10 acres of land so no one would see, but I am sure my aim isn't as good as a man's :D I am trying to train my 4 year old son to aim for the mole holes.

Irish 05-20-2003 08:40 PM

Scarlett---I had two daughters(grown with kids, now)I tried to
teach them not to let anyones son hit the hole! Irish
P.S.I wonder if gekkogecko heard that song that I helped to
write?It goes-I don't like spiders&snakes,but you know what it takes---and so on.Can't do more.Copyright Laws,you know!
