Alleviating anxiety

The doctor thinks my breathing problem may be related to anxiety, and regardless of whether he is correct or not, I'd like to hear from anyone who knows of ways to alleviate anxiety. Thanks guys :)

*hugs*

Belial,

I'm glad to hear that the doctor doesn't think there is a physiological basis for your condition. I'll have to defer to others on techniques to control anxiety. Here's hoping for a speedy resolution!

I do simple yet seriously corny things to try to alleviate anxiety (cause I am really good at getting all worked up).

1) When I was trying to stop smoking I started this thing where I picture when I was the very most relaxed I can ever remember being. For me, it was in a hammock on an island (I was on a cruise).Everyone else was snorkeling and playing volleyball etc. Mr. Lil and I curled up in this hammock, I can remember I had on a black bikini and my stomach was sooo tan and my skin was soooo warm and so unlike me at the time, I actually fell asleep in his arms right there. I run that script over and over.

2) I set up a routine for when I am anxious. I try to just do some calming things like listen to alternative rock really loud and sing. Chew gum. Say a mantra.

3) Masturbate:D

4) Eat starches...hence my fat ass:p but mashed potatoes or mac n cheese are comfort foods that effect your chemistry.

5) Bug the crap out of the people who love you. Tell someone what's up.

6) Write a sentence about what is making you feel tense and burn it using a blue candle. Then inhale deeply and exhale deeply thinking about your problem disappearing with your exhalation, as you blow the candle out.

I have a heavy punching bag that I bought at a yard sale. If my stress is caused by any one in particular I take a piece of chalk and write their name on it and pound away!

I also try to take time to ride my motorcycle on a long trip to nowhere. I love to feel the wind in my face and feel the viberations of the engine and road.Sometimes it feels like flying. One day I rode to a small town about 70 miles from here just to eat lunch at a BBQ restaurant.

Try to find out if there is a pattern to your anxiety...Do you only get that way after certain events or at certain times of the day or at a particular place? If you can determine the triggers of your anxiety then you can work to eliminate the feelings in those circumstances.

Keep a journal that you write in whenever you get to feeling anxious. This will get it out of your head and hopefull out of the way.

Find something to do that calms you. Read a book, fix a cup of tea, kill things on computer games :) Whatever helps calm you down.
