Vehicle Registration

The gas prices thread got me to thinking about what ppl pay to register their cars over the world

I'n Queensland Australia...i own a 6 cylinder car (4 cyl cheaper 8 or 12 higher respectively).......and pay around AU$730/year to register my car

Curious minds need to know *LOL* Tell me yours

Lilith 04-15-2004 12:04 AM

like $37 I think

Sharni 04-15-2004 12:10 AM

$37 bucks...well bugger me dead....were' being ripped of major league

rockintime 04-15-2004 12:40 AM

About $100

Catch22 04-15-2004 01:13 AM

$730? Now I am happy I do not have a car.

Steph 04-15-2004 02:20 AM

I'm thinking it's quite cheap. $50 or so . . . I know I could have signed up and ordered it for longer and saved a few bucks.

How much are you paying for insurance? That's where car style, etc. comes into it. I didn't think it had anything to do with car style re: registration.

Catch22 04-15-2004 02:24 AM

compulsory 3rd party insurance is part of the cost here.

Sharni 04-15-2004 02:38 AM

Catch22 is correct.....we pay compulsary 3rd party insurance in our registration...

I also take out another insurance policy to fully insure the car....i cant recall off hand what that is...i'll see if i can find it and get back to ya

IN the UK we don't have to pay to register the car as such, we have to pay what is called "Road Tax" or the official name "road fund licence" and for my car, a 2 litre 4 cylinder 16 valve, it costs £90.75 for 6 months or £165 for the full year. If you have a smaller car below 1600cc its cheaper. Insurance is completely seperate.

LixyChick 04-15-2004 05:05 AM

Registration = $36.00

Insurance per year = $792.00 Full Tort (meaning we can sue for certain injuries that aren't included in Limited Tort and we pay a higher rate...but we pay a lesser deductible if we make a claim).

Inspection = Approx. $42.00 per year unless you live in an area that requires emissions (we don't...at least for now) and then it would be around $65.00...plus any additional monies for repairs on required but non-working or under par functioning parts (lights, tires, cracked windows...etc.).

Ok got the insurance...Full Comprehensive AU$360.00/year

soooooo all together it cost around AU$1,090/year to put 1 car on the road

having_fun 04-15-2004 07:23 AM

$38 a year here for registration, but the local excise tax adds another $270 a year. For some reason Indiana is a high risk area, my insurance is $1380 a year. Thats almost double what it was in Los Angelas, who would have guessed.

We register the car (get tags for the plate) every may, and both cars together run us about $100 total, and that's for an 88 Bonneville, and a 91 Cadillac. We need to see about lowering the insurance on the caddy, though, because we don't actually drive it. It hasn't been driven since right after we moved in here.

That was last September.

Have a 88 GMC pickup at $35 per year, a 01 GMC Jimmy at $35 per year and liability insurance on both is $65 per month. Pickups are cheaper than cars or vans.

In New Hampshire, it's a sliding scale based on the model year and value of the car (it pays to drive a clunker). Least expensive is around USD 65.00. It's that way in California too.
