Burping a lot

Okay, I have a question. I seem to burp a lot. Mostly in the morning a little after I wake up. I have noticed this to be a recent (last couple of months) situation.

I find it somewhat irritating. Can't correlate it to anything.

Anyone have a similar condition or any thoughts on what I should do?

Do you still have a gallbladder?

LixyChick 06-25-2006 09:22 PM

^^^ Gallbladder question is good!

Or...is the head of your bed at a slightly lower pitch than the foot?

Or...Do you eat/drink gaseous foodstuffs just before retiring?

Eeeeek! I have a million questions (and didn't check your profile for age).

Oldfart 06-25-2006 09:37 PM

Is it just an unflavoured burp, or is there a distinct and constant aftertaste?

Some tummy bugs do that.

Irritable bowel syndrome?

Sleep-walking pop-rocks addict?

When all possible options have been rejected, examine the impossible.

Thanks for the feedback....Gallbladder, yup, still got one. Flavor of burping..nope, no flavor.

I will add though that sometimes I get the impression I've got something in my gag reflex area, and when I try and burp, I get bile.

Don't have much in the way of heartburn, but have a little sometimes. Am wondering If I've got an ulcer. But honestly, not really under stress the last few months. Was terribly stressed out last year, but that ended in October.

What do you think?

You are having the beginnings of gallstones. When the spasms in your chest/back start see a dr.

Okay, thanks for the direction. I'll take a look at gallbladder stuff.

Finally went to the doctor. Acid Reflux. Given a prescrption for Prilosec. Seems to be working.

Irish 11-06-2006 02:28 PM

Prilosec is the over the counter.I think the prescription, for acid reflux is
Protonix or the VA has Omeprazole. The mgs will depend on the severity.Ck
with your DR.I'm not a real Dr,I just play one on TV. Irish

Actually it is Prilosec. And I'm not sure why I needed a prescription for it. Will have to ask next time. It is over the counter. Odd.

Oh well, just want it to work.

Hope you're feeling better.......the meds will help, i'm sure.

Btw, did the doc check for H. pylori? A stomach bacteria and easily treatable with antibiotics but it's symptoms include acid reflux, and can lead to severe stomach ulcers. If I were you, i'd at least ask the doc to do the test (either blood or breath). I was always amazed at how many people test positive.

Thanks for the info. I'll check with the doc.

I think Prilosec OTC is a slightly different level of medication from the Prilosec that the dr. prescribes...I know this is the case with Motrin/ibuprophen, which is available otc in 200mg, but a dr. must prescribe 400mg or 800mg doses...you can ask the doc if the otc is cheaper, or just use the script if you have a good prescription plan to pay for it...

My P.C.P. awnsered this question for me before. He said that Ibuprophen &
Motrin are basically the same thing & that you can take two ibuprophen 200mg & it is the same thing as a 400mg Motrin only MUCH less expensive.
He also said not to worry about the warning not to take more than ,so many,
pills a day because that is only to protect the pill manufacturer. He is also a
close friend & told me that they're not supposed to tell you that! Irish
P.S.You may be correct on the strength of Prilosec & Prilosec OTC.I know
personally that Immodium(Lopermide)is much stronger than Immodium A D.
The latter is available without a prescription!

You're on PCP?!? I thought you gave up drugs...
