Just saw this on one of the new columns on our front porch last week...these are 8" columns, my wife measured the wingspan at 6"...if this bugger were any larger he'd need clearance from Ground Control before takoff...

That is beautiful! My son and I watch for these huge moths every year and I normally HATE any type of bug! lol

Is that a Lunar Moth?

Scotz my first day at the school I work at I saw a giant one like that on a sign. I was so surprised it was at kid height and no had even spotted it.

:yikes: <-----What my reaction would have been seeing that on my house.

Scotzoid, I wouldn't worry about it unless you happen to live in Tokyo.

Those are awesome! I believe it is a Cecropia moth. We have the cocoons around here and we clipped off one of the branches it was on and took it to school for my daughter's class. Pretty neat to see.

Oh Wow! Never saw one quite like that around here.

dicksbro 07-31-2006 04:50 AM

That's getting big enough, it might try to pull a heist for a wool sweater or something. Neat, never have seen a moth quite that large.

I saw one once, long time ago.

Abner would love chasing that thing!!!!
