Morning sickness

Ok, now I have your attention... NO, I'm not pregnant!!! lol

For a year or two now, when I don't sleep enough at night, in the morning I am nauseous. For example, last night I went to bed at around 2, and I woke up this morning at 7, and I ended up throwing up. I've noticed a pattern - I only wake up sick if I don't sleep well at night. If I have 7, 8 hours of sleep, I am in perfect shape the next morning. However, if I have less, it makes me sick... This is before I eat, before I do anything really.

Why does this happen? I haven't talked to a doc about it, since it rarely happens that I don't get enough sleep, but when I have 459269874 things to do for school, I end up staying up longer/getting up earlier...

No idea. Do you have an acid stomache? Drinking too much coffee?

Do you feel better after you eat something?

Neige 10-04-2006 12:34 PM

I don't think I have an acid stomach - I don't suffer from heartburn or anything like that. I very rarely drink coffee (though I do love it), but my drinking it doesn't coincide with my being sick. Usually, after I throw up once (it really just retching since I have nothing in my stomach) everything goes back to normal and I feel great within minutes.

I usually have an upset stomach when I'm running on empty. It's especially touchy if I take a vitamin on an empty stomach.

Oh yeah, it happened to me all the time. The worst is when it er, comes out the other end.

Also, my eyes would burn in the shower from lack of sleep.

Ah, the glory days of grad school!

How can you drink too much coffee? :coffee:

Only one time I can recall getting sick from a really bad nite's sleep was, ironically enough, at the hospital sleep center when they diagnosed me with sleep apnea...but that bad sleep was the result of sleeping in a strange bed, with a camera on me (so I couldn't spank the monkey), & with my head wired up with electrodes so I felt like the Terminal Man...then when I woke up, they removed the wires with acetone (think soaking your head in nail polish remover) while they fed me the absolutely shittiest cup of vending machine coffee I've ever had...so I guess it should be no surprise that 5 minutes later it felt like I was hurling up my toenails...

Try chewing two antacids every night before you go to bed. Or drink a glass of milk...that might settle things down.

Neige 10-04-2006 09:53 PM

WildIrish, the weird thing is - I can sleep for like 12 hours and wake up on an empty stomach and I will feel A-1.

lonelyarmywife, I try to avoid taking medicine for nothing... I'll have to try the glass of milk :)

*psssss Zoid*
(You don't "spank the monkey". YOU "chock the chicken".)

PantyFanatic 10-04-2006 10:26 PM

PixieSprite- I know what the problem is. You're not sleeping in MY bed. :D

FallenAngel5 10-04-2006 10:34 PM

I've noticed the same thing, PS. If my body isn't fully recharged, it's just... off. I feel woozy and sick to my stomach. I think it's just the body's reaction to not going through enough REM cycles to fix yesterday's woes. As for how to fix it... get enough sleep? Sometimes that's difficult and I don't have any suggestions for when you know you're not going to sleep enough. But you're not alone.

Neige 10-04-2006 10:40 PM

Well I'm glad other people go through the same thing! Everyone I've told has tried to convince me I'm pregnant :D and they have never heard of something like it... It's good to know I'm not alone!
