S N L
I was watching a retrospective show the other night about Saturday Night Live. I was wondering who was/is your favorite comedian who appeared regularly as part of the cast and what sketch is your all time favorite.
|
We only saw the breakouts, not SNL itself here in Oz.
I'd have loved to see the Coneheads etc as SNL fodder. |
For me it would have to be the big daddy of them all John Belushi and any thing with the Blues Brothers good music with a little comedy throwen in on the side.
|
So many great ones but I have to say that I think some of the stuff Chris Farley did made me laugh the hardest. When he did his motivational speaker thing, "You'll end up like me......... living in a van, down by the river!" :roflmao:
God, what was the name of that character? Matt Foley, does that sound right? And the Ambiguously Gay Duo, Ace & Gary never fail to make me laugh. |
Are you kidding ... just one?
It's really hard to pick just one - they were a great ensemble.
Dan Ackroyd....as Julia Child is a classic and favorite in my book. btw :jester: I'm not going to promise to only post once here. |

lilith, you ignorant slut.
|
:roflmao: I love it wyndhy!!!
Here's a little bit of Matt Foley for those who may not remember him. http://youtube.com/watch?v=t-dkCyRT...related&search= |
I watched the show myself, altho I missed the 1st few minutes. Picking a favorite anything from the 1st 5 years is like picking a favorite noodle out of a spaghetti dinner...I remember those years fondly, wherever you were, whatever you were doing, at 10:30 CST Saturday night, someone would turn on the TV & everyone gathered around to see what outrageously funny things they would do this week. I think that was the charm in those early days, that the show looked & felt like it was being produced by kids like ourselves, & they were doing it after the grownups had left, & they would just push the envelope a little further every show.
Standouts from those first years had to be Ackroyd doing the speed-rap "Ronco Bass-o-matic", Chevy Chase as the "Land Shark"...I could go on & on, but I won't... But I was watching the night that Buck Henry returned to do yet another "Samuri" bit with Belushi, & actually sustained severe cut to the forehead when John hit him with the sword...after the commercial break, he MCed the "Presidential debate" with a huge bandage on his head, then Chevy came on as President Ford, also with a bandaid (which was kind of appropos for Ford anyway), by the end of the show, everyone was sporting bandaids on their heads...hey, it's live TV, shit happens... |
And why is it that even after all of these years, I'll laugh my ass off at "Land shark." :roflmao:
Thanks for reminding me of that one Scotz. Damn funny stuff. :thumb: |
I loved Dan Ackroyd's "interview" in which he responds to allegations that his company's products are dangerous to children.
"We've got a whole line of Bag-O products that are very successful. There's Bag-O-Glass, Bag-O-Rusty Nails and the ever popular Bag-O-Asbestos Insulation!" Christopher Walkin & Will Ferrell's "gotta have more cowbell" scene was a riot. As was Christopher Walkin's character that lived alone and was answering census questions. "How many people live here?....I think it's 84. I mean 1...plus a plant." :roflmao: |
:roflmao:
Like everyone else, a single nugget from that bonaza is impossible to pick. Like Boog, I would have to start my list with Belushi's Blues Brothers and I have to get Father Guido Sarducci on there too. |
Father Guido, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Chevy Chase ... and so on ... I don't know how you could ever narrow that group down to just one.
|
Topping my list is the late Gilda Radner! Anything she did was great, from Rosanna Danna talking about Nana Rosanna Danna or Lisa Loopner and Tod (was that his name?) or Emily Latilda on the news segment... "eagles should have rights"...umm Emily that was Equal Rights.... "never mind".
But the entire Not Ready For Prime Time cast was great back then!! Never failed to make us laugh. |
Another favorite for me was John Belushi's performance of "A Little Help From My Friends"
