Netgear

I came home to a fried network. I think something has happened to my router. It keeps dropping out and I've played with all the buttons and wires.

We all have Netgear adapters and so I was planning on getting another Netgear router. Anyone have one they particularily love? Any other advice on routers?

I'm having decent luck with a Dlink extreme N router...although I occasionally have to connect manually after the computer's been off

My computer tech nerd friend swears by linxus or however you spell it

My 1st router was a D-Link, I think, & I believe I fried that one myself by mistakenly swapping the power cord from the modem :banghead: 2nd one was Linksys, lasted a little longer than the dlink...I got a Trendnet router now, bought just before CompUSA went down for the count; one thing I kinda like about this is that it came with a free trial for Network Magic - I liked it enough to pay $30 to keep it, keeps all the puters connected better than I've ever able to before.

I've had the most luck with Billion and Linksys gear for home use. I used to have to support D-Link routers in a job I had a few years ago and we used to joke that it stood for Dead-Link. I've known a couple of people with bad Netgear experiences but no definitive yea or nay for Netgear.

i never doubyed for a second that you would.

Belial 07-27-2008 03:46 PM

:) What'd you end up buying?

Lilith 07-27-2008 05:03 PM

not sure..and Netgear that said it was compatible with my adapters. It's faster than the old on I had but with 4 other puters on the wireless it's still slow.

Have you got yours encrypted yet? I haven't done mine yet, but anytime I lose connection for a while I always find a couple of neighbors' signals coming in, at low levels of course. If you don't block out the neighbors, they can piggyback on yours & slow it down even more...not to mention hack into your system if they're so inclined...

Even though our Techie Goddess has fixed her problems I am compelled to add that my opinion of Netgear products is not particularly favorable. In my experience, they don't play well with others. Linksys and D-link have served me well.

I encrypted it. :D

I have netgear adapters so Mr. Lil figured we should stick with what has worked in the past.
