Anime

My friend and I both enjoy anime movies and tv shows. I was wondering if any of you have some suggestions for us to watch. We both have seen, Ninja Scrolls (movie not tv show), Vampire Hunter D, and Record of Lodoss War. I'd like to stay away from the Saturday morning cartoons....Pokemon, Digimon.....etc.

Try Patlabor (Movies and TV show, though original tv is better dubbed)
Bubblegum Crisis (OVA and 2040)
AD Police
Appleseed (Original Movie and the newer 2)
Trigun
Wicked City
Full Metal Alchemist (TV first and then Movie)
Scrapped Princess
Maburaho
Princess Mononoke
Ghost in the Shell, ok this one has an original movie and sequel. The first is great the second not so much. Then there is the TV Show, 2 seasons and a movie for its end all of which are great. The TV show and last movie are a reboot of the first movie.

I've heard of full metal alchemist, ghost in the shell, and appleseed. I think I've seen the first movie of appleseed, but I'm not sure. I like Hellsing (the original tv show hellsing ultimate which I haven't seen).

Sorry marlboro, but I've never heard of the two you suggested. Might see if I can find them.

Another couple of suggestion (and my son does enjoy them, nut me not nearly as much, I still have a hard time watching anime for some reason):

Gundam (and there are various versions of Gundam)
Robotech (an older anime, though I think they just released a new movie with the last 2 or 3 years)
Voltron (my son's absolute 2nd favorite cartoon, Transformers neimg the first)

A few more.

Not totally Saturday morning are
Dragonball Z
Dragonball GT
Naruto
Naruto Shippuden
These are good series but not as much on the mature scale.

For more mature try
Bleach
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop
Neon Genesis: Evangelion (This one gets a little strange)
Grave of the Fireflies
Witch Hunter Robin
Akira
Tenchi
Ah My Goddess
Escaflowne
Perfect Blue

I've heard of Escaflowne, not that fond of Dragonball Z after a certain point. Started getting a little to ridiculous even for an anime. I've caught a snippit of Naruto and actually wouldn't mind watching some of it to get a better feel for the series. Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll put them to my friend and see what he thinks. It's his netflix after all.

I'm about to butcher the spelling but did you see that M. Night Shamalan is doing the Naruto/Mind Bender movie.

Lord Snow 07-18-2009 12:59 PM

Nope, but the last few of his movies I've seen I've been very disappointed with.

I know he is currently directing the movie version of Avatar: The last Airbender. I hope he does this movie better than his last few.

There is another one that was also very good. Teknoman. He is all over youtube.

Here is a link to wiki on it.

Confusing, with the Japanese/English/American name differences.

It sounds like Robotek as a soapie.

Drakorsha 01-14-2010 05:28 PM

is there a genre you'd like? comedy? action? harem? super natural? Hentai? drama? romance? etc...

i'll give some action types first.

Samurai X, AKA, Rurouni Kenshin.
Black Lagoon
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2032, 2040, crash,
Claymore
Cowboy bepop
Trigun
Darker than Black
Gate Keepers
Hellsing Ultimate
The Garden of Sinners, AKA, Kara no Kyoukai
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (movie)
Kurozuka
Robotech, AKA, Super dimension Fortress Macross
(and anything macross, the latest one though is Macross Frontier, if the SDF Macross is too long)
Samurai Champloo
Shakugan no Shana
Spriggan (movie)
Strait Jacket
Sword of the Stranger (movie)

other stuff:

if you're also into games, they're a few that are linked. e.g.
Valkyria Chronicles, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Phantasia,

Aim for the Top (AKA. Gunbuster.) : old, but not bad
Aim for the Top 2 (AKA Die Buster) : much newer.
Aria the Animation (and its follow ons): if you prefere a very calm anime about nothing except daily life happiness. and gondolas.
mushishi
She, The Ultimate Weapon (this is sad...)
Utawarerumono

I don't think my friend and I would sit down and watch a hentai together. They're interesting to watch, but we're not that kind of close.

deloneblack 11-26-2010 09:41 AM

The stereotype of anime style characters with proportionally large eyes and hairstyles and colors that are very colorful and exotic. The plots are very immature the maturity level of teenagers . The classification of hentai is given to the anime a stong.
