I feel like I've let myself down by reducing the speed but it's either that, or quit completely in another day or two as it would just get too much.

FWM ~ There's nothing wrong with reducing speed. I was running at 6.4 for two sessions straight, but haven't been able to work conistently at that speed now for the last three sessions. So I reduce and just keep moving rather than stop or quit. The REAL key is getting into the proper training and cardio zone...that's the sweet spot where you are burning fat most efficiently. IMO, this is the most important consideration.
As for the sit-ups, you can do WAY MORE than I can. I can do 50 lying flat before I have to quit.
