For years I would only go to the dentist for emergency work. Like an abscessed tooth or needing my wisdom teeth yanked. When I moved in with Joe (my fiance ), and he took me to who is now my really great and cute dentist, who looked at my teeth in horror. Because of the 23 years of smoking and lack of proper dental care, my teeth were a mess. I had very deep pockets that needing scaling. This took me to periodontist who three visits and $5,000 later said I was good to start going back to my regular dentist. I go every four months for a cleaning and check-up. I still have a couple of very deep pockets that might need surgery later, but we are trying to ward that off for as long as possible.
