Instead of all of trying to second guess the problem a visit to the doctor for her and you should be the first thing you do... just for peace of mind.

I wouldn't just have you use protection just for you and not worry about her at all... it is worth some discomfort on your part from her reaction to get her to go to the doc and get checked out.
