Personally I am of the theory that age doesn't much matter, it is all about a connection. If it is there it is there, if not, move on. I have dated older by a little and a lot 18 years my senior at most. And I have dated slightly younger by a few years. My current is right around my age, actually just caught up with me on Saturday.
