For me a fetish is an intense interest in something very specific. Whether it is a particular act, situation, person, place, or thing. There is usually a negative connotation as though a fetish is irrational or obsessive. But I just think fetishes make that particular person unique.
My fetish is having sex with a naked man in socks. It stems from two images I had seen when I was much younger that turned me on immensely. The images stuck with me through my sexual development (as far as it has gotten) and really became a part of my sexuality. Now, it's not to say that I only ever get turned on by a naked man in socks, but if I do see this or imagine it it intensifies the experience.
I've had non-sexual fetishes too. I have an intense fetish for books. Just their mere presence in the room makes me feel happier and calmer. Even the aroma of dried ink on paper lingers with me when I open a new book.
That's just my two cents...

I think you've hit the nail on the head here, actually Vurginne......I too, have non sexual fetishes like you and Osuche (for recipe books, evening shoes, nail varnish and night wear......all of which I have LOADS of, from an obsessive need to buy whenever I see a particularly good example, despite the fact that I rarely use any of them!)
Oh and Vurginne, you need to get yourself over to England - the men here are known for having sex in just their socks!!! It's like a national joke over here about British men!
