Positive Volunteerism

Looking at one of Liliths's statements the other day, and if I am not the first to reply, lo siento, I thought I would start a place to list worthwhile charities. There are a thousand that are worthwhile, and each person will have a draw toward one or another. I thought I would throw out 3 that I particularly like, just because they appeal to me. If you support them this holiday season, and throughout the year, fantastic. If not, then pick one, because religion aside, giving is a one of the truely worthwhile human qualities---and yes, my wife has disabused me of the notion that blowjobs dont qualify as charitible contributions =(

Ronald McDonald Childrens Charities http://www.rmcc.org.my/history.asp
They help support sick children and their families, free of charge at their hospitals around the country

St. Jude Hospital http://www.stjude.org/
This organization also works with children and their families, helping them to defray the cost of medical care.

MSA USA telethon http://www.mdausa.org/telethon/
Again, helping shildren to combat a disease.

Again, every person will have their favorite charity, and I particualry like those that help children first. Where else do you contribute?

Kidd's Kids http://www.kiddskids.com/
Local (and syndicated DJ) started the organization when he thought he was going to have a child with a disability. She was born healthy but he still wanted to do something for those that didn't share his fortune. An annual long weekend trip to Disney for the families of a child with a terminal or chronic disease.

SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) http://www.spca.org/
A wonderful place that does everything they can to help and save animals.

American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org/
The Susan G. Komen Foundation http://www.komen.org/
City of Hope http://www.cityofhope.org/
Lance Armstrong Foundation http://www.laf.org

Gentlefolk,

I have been involved with the Boy Scouts for many years now, and I commend it to anyone who can spare a couple of hours each week to help develop boys.

While adult guidance is of great value for all boys, it particularly important for those from the city, for some of whom BSA camping is the only time they get to see beyond the concrete.
