Buzz-Chirp-Beep-Ding-Click

How many electronic sounds surround you in your home every hour of the day? Our computers, our cell phones, our TVs, the microwave, the doorbell, clocks, smoke alarms etc……..

I'm happy some of these things only have one 'alarm sound' but there are so many often it's difficult telling which one it's coming from. Have you ever been watching TV and suddenly there is a beep or ding and you start looking around for the source? Was it from the TV background or a text on the phone?, maybe a ding from the computer that an email came in or a reminder notice you had set? You're not even sure what direction it came from.

We've done all this to ourselves but if you turn off (the noise AND yourself) all the 'BEPS', you feel like you are so out of step in today's culture your are going to pay for it one way or the other.

So how's the ambient noise treating you?

Waaaaay back in high school, I was one of a bunch of people who sat around during lunch time, yes, in the crowded noisy lunchroom, playing chess. I developed an ability to selectively listen to ambient noise.

Ambient noise can sometimes drive a person to distraction. It could a squirrel on the roof or the first Tuesday of the month test of the emergency warning siren (I've often though that if I was foreign power wanting to attack the US, I'd pick the first Tuesday of the month at 10am and again across each time zone.

I consider myself very lucky as there is very little ambient noise to be a distraction.

Oh except for Sharni's whining!

Yes I expect to be in a LOT of trouble very soon

I often played the same mind-game but settled on 14:00 hr. on the 4th Thursday of November. Within 100 minutes either way, I believe with FEW exceptions, every foot is under a table from Fire Fighters, more family members than you've seen all year, Air Squadrons, homeless people having one of the two good meals for the season, Army bases, half of ALL Police forces on 'dinner break', ........ etc.
