You have my deepest sympathy Lilith_82 I've suffered from something very similar myself so I know just how painfull it can be.
I know this may not be appropriate in your case so get advice first before you try it.
When I was really bad with it my doctor and physiotherapist both advised me to kneel on the floor and bend forward to rest my body on something comfortable (a little like you get when doing it doggy style) just to take some of the strain from your back. It helped me, if it is ok for you it may help a little.

My thoughts of a quick healing are with you hun! Hubby had something similar and the absolute only place he could sit/lay/sleep was in the recliner chair while it was partially reclined. His excercises eventually helped. I hope yours do soon!

The condition, that musketeer describes, sounds an awful lot like
what I had to do & it eventually turned out to be a shattered disc,
at first they thought that it was a slipped disc & had me in traction
Luckily,I had a Dr.that figured it out.I have neuropothy(nerve damage)& it also sounds like that,when it flares up!I would suggest,having your Dr. test everything.PAIN SUCKS!Good Luck!

L82, you have my sympathies here too, I've been dealing with a nerve prob in my back as well for almost a year now. The pain is in my back, between the the shoulder blades, but the nerve prob wraps all the way around my chest...I can't stand a shirt touching, or the seat belt in the van...Like TinTN, I've gotten some relief from Neurontin, which also helps with the neuropathy I've had since my diabetes flared out of control last year. Irish is right, pain sucks...

Let's all keep Lili in our thoughts. We're lucky to have her here at pixies, and let's hope she's on the mend!

*grin* You people just rock! While I'm still on bed-rest, I'm supposed to be walking more, and learning how to sit and do stairs again... I just have to relax in between those things, and make myself as comfy as possible.
I find out my CT scan results on Wednesday.
